On this Indigenous People's Day, we celebrate the resilience and strength of Native communities here in Michigan and around the globe. We proudly embrace our moniker, the CMU Chippewas, and express our profound gratitude to our neighbors and partners in the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and to all members of the Anishinaabe people, upon whose land CMU stands today. For your support and partnership, we say "chi miigwech."

Today we honor Indigenous People’s Day by celebrating the strength, resilience, and rich cultures of Native communities. ✨ Existence of Resistance, a powerful reminder that indigenous people have stood strong through centuries of struggle and continue to fight for justice and recognition.

This is a time to honor our ancestors, celebrate our survival, and remind the world we are living indigenous people, not just a part of history.

For us everyday is Indigenous People’s Day but especially today! 🔥

Happy Indigenous People’s Day! 🪶

Behind every residential school record and every number was a child with a family, community, language and culture. Many returned home carrying experiences no child should have endured. Others never returned home.

We remember the children and stand with the Survivors, families and communities who continue to carry their memories. Every child mattered then, and every child matters today.

09/29/2026

Join us tomorrow for National Day of Remembrance, Orange Shirt Day, to honor and remember boarding & residential school survivors and the children who went there.
