“Teaching at Wando High School for the past 17 years has been an incredible journey filled with music, memories, and meaningful connections. It’s a privilege to be part of such a talented and supportive community of educators, students, and families. I’m truly honored to be nominated for Teacher of the Year among colleagues who are as passionate and dedicated as they are inspiring.

My teaching philosophy centers on dreaming big and helping my students build a clear path to reach those dreams. Whether it’s perfecting a harmony or building confidence, I aim to inspire my students to grow, challenge themselves, and achieve more than they thought possible. Over the years, Wando Chorus students have risen to remarkable heights. Together, we’ve made music in some remarkable places—Carnegie Hall (2011), St. Peter’s Basilica (2013, 2016, 2024), Pearl Harbor (2019), and the JFK Presidential Library (2023), among others. Winning first place at the Disney National Choral Festival in Orlando (2022) was another proud moment that highlighted their hard work, talent, and dedication.

Beyond my classroom, I’m passionate about supporting music educators nationwide. I’ve been privileged to lead professional development sessions at conventions such as GMEA, SCMEA, Southern ACDA, and more, sharing practical strategies to help choirs thrive. I’ve also written two choral textbooks—Habits of a Successful Choir Director (GIA Music Publications, 2015) and Habits of a Successful Choral Musician (GIA Music Publications, 2019)—to empower teachers and students with tools to enhance music literacy, inspire creativity, and foster a lifelong love for music.

Whether working with students or colleagues, my goal remains to make music education impactful, inspiring, and accessible. After all, when we come together to make music, we create something truly unforgettable.”
