Cario Middle School

As you prepare to return to teaching, and our kids get back into the classroom please let me know how I may assist. Happy to help our schools in anyway possible. Also, if the kids do not return to the classroom, will CCSD provide any type of parental stipend for parents forced to remain home and serve as teachers aids, IT support, internet service providers etc? Also computers, software, HVAC, supplies etc? How is CCSD, SC, or US Treasury compensating parents that are now forced to no longer work and stay home? We all realize these are bizzare circumstances, but how and where will the economic support be avaialble. We know the schools are funded. We know the teachers are being paid, but what about the parents forced to leave jobs to become "interim" aids, educators, administrators and more. I know this is a question that many others have brought up. I also know you are all very busy trying to navigate this yourselves. Any information is appreciated. Thanks for all you do and all you will now enable us to do in educating our children. Welcome back, Kinda :)

It is bittersweet to have to send this to everyone. What a wild year at Cario! Finishing my sixth (not consecutive) year in some capacity of PTSO. I hate to go, but I know you’ll be in great hands. Anyone interested in joining the PTSO for the next school year, please email us at [email protected]. We can’t do it without volunteers and others that love our school as much as we do. We are truly blessed to have such a great group of parents, teachers, staff and students. My love to everyone and best for the future. XO, Jenn Jenn Hahn Wilkinson

Thank you to the teachers, administrators and staff, who have been working around the clock since this health scare began to plan for possible school closures. We appreciate all your hard work in having to re-do, re-plan, and re-organize the education of our kids. Thank you for helping our kids be a success and stay healthy. I do hope all of you and your families will all be well.
Does anyone know when girls basketball tryouts are? Do you need to sign up through MPRD? Thanks!
I found this ID at the park this morning. I can send it with my son when school reopens or can meet somewhere.
Is there any specific books rising 6th graders need to be reading? Thank you.

Here's hoping that day 2 saw fewer issues with Zoom and a whole lot more smiles! Go CoMeTs!

Dear Cario Families, we are aware of multiple issues with Zooms today. The Zoom platform for our school and teachers was changed over the summer, and we are still navigating what that means for us and for our students. Rest assured, if your student is unable to connect or log on to Zoom today, they will not be penalized. Please encourage your student to reach out to their teachers to get any missed information, and know that, as always, we are working hard to make this work! #GOCOMETS

Welcome back CoMeTs! Happy First Day of School!

Late breaking news, Cario families: CCSD has just changed the way students (and staff) log on to Chromebooks. Instead of entering the email, individuals will start by clicking NEXT on the first screen, after which the Portal will appear, and the username and password can be entered. Please reach out with any questions!

Cario families, we have collected technology resources for you on our school website under CARIO FIRST DAY TECH READY. Check it out for directions on logging in, using Canvas as a student and a parent, and more.

Good morning Cario families! We have received late word that Emergency Cards CAN be completed ahead of time and delivered during LEAP week. You remember this document, it always takes the longest - so important, of course - but it takes a bit of time. Please consider printing out this document (2 pages below in English and the second two pages are the document in Spanish) and bringing it with you to your scheduled LEAP week time slot. It is also available on our school website.

Cario Parents, Parent Portal is disabled at this time. The portal should be open during the first week of school, at which time you can reset your login credentials if needed.

Happy rainy Monday, CoMeTs! RevTrak is now for online payment of school fees.

Cario families, Ms. Morris sent out an email this evening with important information regarding Back to School plans. Please check your email or check out our website Go CoMeTs!

#throwbackthursday Our new 6th Grade Math teacher, Ms. Remley, was a Comet in 8th Grade! Here she is, on the right, at her 8th Grade dance with the fabulous Mr. Howard (Grade 8 Science teacher). BTW, he has not aged a bit! ;)

If you have a rising 7th or 8th Grade student interested in playing football for the Wando C Team, please fill out the link below.

Cario parents, we have received word from the district that some emails are going to parents' spam folders when sent via Blackboard. They report that the impacted email addresses have been Gmail accounts (although here at Cario we have heard that other providers have also been impacted). Our IT Department is working with Blackboard Support to try to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Please check your spam folder and mark the message as not spam. This should resolve the issue for them. We are working to resolve this issue.

Special Announcement from Principal Morris regarding Cario Middle School restart.

Good evening Cario parents,

In an effort to address some questions and confusion that have come to my attention, I have created a short video that outlines the current preference options available to you and some upcoming important dates.

You have recently submitted a survey through the district. However, in order to ensure we have the most accurate and up to date information from each of you, please complete the two question survey to help us finalize scheduling. New year, who dis? Meet our new-to-Cario teachers, we are so glad they are here!

Without his usual summer soccer camps, Dr. Coach Hamil has still found ways to stay busy this summer. He is serving on the State Committee to re-write the Standards for Middle School Physical Education. He is on the CCSD Committee to develop a curriculum for on-line middle school physical education, and he is also on the Logistics Team here at Cario. As if that's not enough, he is enrolled in the Certificate of School Management and Leadership program at Harvard University. Phew! #carioteachersrecharge or no? ;)

#carioteachersrecharge with a little bit of #throwbackthursday! Grade 8 Science teacher Ms. Guthrie enjoyed some family fireworks on July 4th back in her home state of Illinois. Obviously her daughters have inherited the family fashion AND enthusiasm for life! :)

Rising 6th graders Lily, Georgie, and Lilah and Coach Howard (Grade 8 Science teacher) enjoyed volleyball at IOP. #carioteachersrecharge

Not sure 8th Grade Social Studies teacher Mr. Crosby would call it recharging, but he is certainly loving life this summer with his new best friend, his newborn baby boy (not to be outdone by his pooch, showing how naps are done!). Congratulations, Mr. Crosby! #carioteachersrecharge

#carioteachersrecharge Grade 8 Social Studies teacher Ms. Leland spent quality time with her granddaughter teaching her how to catch a bass at lowtide. Go CoMeT grands! ;)

#carioteachersrecharge You might recognize this cutie enjoying a book with her auntie - Charlotte is lucky enough to be band teacher Ms. Mumford's daughter AND niece of 6th Grade ELA teacher Ms. Donner. Of course Ms. Donner shared a book with her on her birthday.

Good evening Cario Middle School families,
I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe. I am reaching out to you to share updates related to the fall Safe Restart Plan. The CCSD Safe Restart Plan Proposal (available on the CCSD homepage) that was shared with all families last week will be presented to the CCSD school board this evening and reviewed in the coming week. Once final decisions are made, we will move forward with finalizing our school-specific plans at Cario. We will share these school-specific plans with all families before the start of school in the fall.

I recognize there are many questions that surround this Safe Restart Plan, as both an administrator and a fellow CCSD parent. It is my intention to work toward bringing clarity to questions and concerns in the coming weeks as the district and school-specific plans are finalized. Our school teams have been working to create extensive plans centered around various possibilities. With options under review, the safety of both students and staff has been and will remain our top priority.

Our community’s circumstances continue to change due to local Covid activity based on data; however, we will continue to adjust our planned operating procedures to meet the needs of our Cario school community. We look forward to seeing our students again soon!

I am so thankful for your support, flexibility, and kind words as we work together to create the best scenario for our students and staff during such a challenging time.

Have a great evening and GO COMETS!

#carioteachersrecharge at the beach - like a lot of us, right? Grade 8 Social Studies and ELA teacher Ms. Falkovitz spotted a halo around the sun at the IOP and used the opportunity to wish for an AWESOME school year.

#carioteachersrecharge CoMeTs love their outdoor spaces! Cario Band teacher Ms. Mumford and her family enjoyed the scenery at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

#carioteachersrecharge Ms. Peters-McGuire, 7th Grade math teacher and numeracy coach, went south to recharge with her CoMeT alumni son, Robert. They snorkeled and went spearfishing. Way to go, CoMeTs! ;)

[06/22/20]   A technical issue caused some of the report card emails to fail to send over the weekend, but CCSD is working now to resend these emails to ensure delivery. If you have not received your child's report card by Tuesday evening, please reach out. Thank you for your time and patience.
