My son, Scott, and I ran at the Run for One last year and had a wonderful day together. We've decided to get involved again this year and I've created a Crown team in case anyone wants to join us! Run for One supports unadopted children around the world. This event gave me a great opportunity to talk to Scott about kids who are less fortunate than him, while giving him a chance to contribute to their lives.

Tuesday, November 7, 2023, is Election Day here in the Lowcountry! There will be no school for students.

The Student Government at Crown Leadership Academy is hosting a food drive for The Lowcountry Food Bank.

Every day, the Lowcountry Food Bank is leading the fight against hunger in our community. Their data and experience indicate that food insecurity remains a severe problem in coastal South Carolina, impacting nearly 10% of our neighbors.

Crown's Student Government wants to do its part to help in that fight. We will be collecting non-perishable food items for the entire month of November.

The student government will take a field trip at the end of the month to drop the donations off! The collecting will begin today and end on November 30th (Thursday). The collection boxes will be in the front of the school by Mrs. Candice's desk and Mrs. Hannah's homeroom.

β€œBut remember, boy, that a kind act can sometimes be as powerful as a sword.”

Middle and High School students visited the Charleston's Historic Dock Street Theatre to see Percy Jackson. We're so grateful to share such wonderful experiences with our students and to the parent chaperones who make these trips possible.

Crown is hosting our very first Interactive STEAM Night!

What is STEAM? STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. Crown is a STEAM-certified school-- you will see each one of these areas represented on Thursday, November 9th, from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

This event is for both Mt. Pleasant & North Charleston Campuses! All grades will be involved in this fun and exciting evening. We will have exciting exhibits like an aquaponics demonstration, a crime/forensic scene, and even a working catapult. The students have been working so hard to prepare for this evening, so please join us as we behold all of their hard work.

Pizza and drinks will be available for sale, so don’t worry about dinner!

High school students participated in a β€œLunch & Learn” with two guest speakers, Chief Pete Anderson and Chief Brittany Neely. They learned all about the career opportunities in the Air Force after high school.

Elementary music classes have been working on rhythm! Students are learning and practicing how to write and play the durations of different notes.

Do you play any instruments? Where did your love for music start?

β€œJust play. Have fun. Enjoy the game.” – Michael Jordan

Aside from the obvious benefits of physical activity and mental stimulation outside of the classroom, being part of a team fosters character growth. Students have the opportunity to establish a strong sense of self-esteem, responsibility, cooperation, discipline, respect, and teamwork, all of which are invaluable skills for any leader.

Last week, our 2nd and 3rd graders visited the local library. There is something so magical about exploring the children’s section of the Library. Early trips encourage children to learn what type of books they like and become lifelong readers.

8th grade English Debate: Students read the short story β€œLamb to the Slaughter” and had to decide if Mary Maloney was guilty or innocent of hitting her husband with a frozen leg of lamb.

One team took the prosecution, and the other team took the defense (Gabriel was our guest helper). They were surrounded by a jury of their peers and teachers who listened carefully to both sides and ultimately decided that Mary was guilty as charged!
