Nathan Blizzard ’20, M.A. ’21, says CMU’s accelerated M.A. in economics gave him an opportunity to challenge himself while saving time and money on his graduate degree. 🔥🆙

At Central Michigan University, accelerated master’s programs, also known as 4+1, 3+2 dual-degree, or fast-track programs, allow students to begin their master’s degree while completing their bachelor’s degree. Typically, students complete their master’s degree one year after earning their bachelor’s degree, allowing them to earn two degrees in approximately five years while saving both time and money.

🔬 PECP Grant Recipient Spotlight: Farjana Chamily

This summer, Earth and Ecosystem Science Ph.D. student Farjana Chamily attended the Animal Behavior Society Meeting in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she had the opportunity to present her research on how acute stress affects brain redox homeostasis in African cichlid fish.

Her research explores how acute stress influences oxidative balance in the brain and how these fish cope with and respond to oxidative damage caused by stress.

Throughout the five-day conference, Farjana participated in research sessions, connected with researchers from diverse backgrounds, and learned about work happening across the field of animal behavior. The experience allowed her to share her own research while gaining new perspectives and ideas from fellow researchers.

Lillian Denecke attended the 156th American Fisheries Society Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, from August 30, 2026, through September 3, 2026. She gave a poster presentation titled “Determining natal origin of adult coho salmon in the Lake Michigan fishery using otolith microchemistry of juveniles” during the poster sessions. The conference brought together fisheries researchers and professionals, providing Lillian with a valuable opportunity to network and share the findings of her thesis research. She attended relevant presentations during the daily sessions, listened to plenary speakers, and participated in networking events throughout the week. After learning about new approaches, Lillian developed new ideas for her own research and looks forward to implementing these ideas into her work.
