Every once in a while someone reminds the world that “old-fashioned” never really goes out of style.

Country artist Emily Ann Roberts Sasser Househas become known for embracing the kinds of skills, traditions, and “grandma hobbies” that many people once thought were disappearing. Baking from scratch. Sewing. Gardening. Canning. Slowing down. Learning from those who came before us.

And look what happened…

She didn’t have to choose between chasing her dreams and honoring her roots. She did both.

That’s exactly what National Homesteaders Day is all about.

Homesteading isn’t about where you live. It’s about choosing to learn, preserve, and pass on the skills that make families and communities stronger.

Whether your dream is a career on stage, running a business, raising a family, or simply learning to bake your first loaf of bread, never let anyone convince you that traditional skills belong in the past.

They just might help shape the future.

If you love what Emily Ann Roberts is doing, show her some love. ❤️ Maybe she’ll even see that there’s an entire National Homesteaders Day movement encouraging people everywhere to reclaim one lost skill.

There is just something about Emily Ann Roberts that makes country music fans smile.

The Yeehaw Meemaw recently harvested 121 pounds of potatoes from her own garden and called it the best day of her life. Not a sold-out show. Not an award. A pile of homegrown potatoes and a whole lot of joy. That tells you everything about who she is.

She grows her own vegetables, cans her own tomatoes, and always keeps a crochet hook and yarn with her on the road. A lot of fans actually find her through her Sasser House account, fall in love with her gardening and homemaking, and only later realize she is one of the finest young voices in country music.

Talented, humble, and happiest with dirt on her hands. What is not to love about Emily Ann Roberts?

I can hardly believe I’m typing these words…

National Homesteader's Day is officially LIVE on National Day Calendar. ❤️

What began as a simple dream at Preppin Mama—to help preserve practical skills, strengthen families, and reconnect communities—has become an officially recognized National Day celebrated every August 15.

This was never about creating another holiday.

It’s about creating a reason to gather around the table.
To learn from one another.
To preserve what matters.
To pass something meaningful to the next generation before it’s forgotten.

Whether you live on an acreage, in town, or in an apartment…

Homesteading isn’t a place—it’s a mindset.

Thank you to every person who believed in this vision, encouraged us, shared our posts, taught a class, demonstrated a skill, prayed for this mission, or simply cheered us on.

Today feels like the beginning of something much bigger than us.

Here’s to reclaiming one lost skill at a time.

🏡 August 15
❤️ Join the movement.
