The Master’s Guild is back for another season of discipleship, fellowship, and learning as we dive into the fall semester. Our 18 students are busy as preparations are underway for our mystery diner theatre, and students are enjoying classes with Dr. Hamby, Dr. Schwabauer, and others learning about theology and the arts! More coming soon as students prepare for road trips, classes, and activities this semester at the 2025 fall Master’s Guild.

Roadtrip!

This weekend we went on a road trip to visit the Ark Encounter! While we did not get to meet Noah, we saw many intriguing sights and enjoyed walking through the three-story replica. While at the ark we also were blessed with the opportunity to see Logos’ performance of Pilgrim’s Progress. To end our weekend we ministered at a Church in Ohio through choir pieces, Sunday school, and Dr. Hamby’s teaching. Thankful for an amazing trip!

We’re back!

After a lovely Christmas break our students are back on campus and have already jumped head-first into Advanced Biblical Theology, Business Leadership, choir, work-project, and much more. Please keep our semester in your prayers and we start another amazing semester!

The last Sunday of the spring semester was a busy day for the Masters Guild students!
We had our first performance of “Jacob: the Wrestler of Jabbok” at the Salvation Army Church in Rochester. Many people showed up, including our friends from the Kenaniah Project who came out to support us. It was a successful morning, after which we celebrated with coffee at the Ugly Duck Café. Then, the group went on a relaxing trip to Conesus Lake for a cookout and games. As the sun set, we recorded all the students singing their final song for Jacob around the park lake to send to Dr. Hamby, who was unable to be with us this week.
Lastly, the day ended with roasting smores, singing songs, and playing games around a campfire. What an incredible way to start the last week of our adventures here at the 2022 Spring Guild!

Although there is so much yet to do in the last weeks of the 2022 Spring semester, yesterday marked our last day of classes. Dr. Hamby taught on the life of King Jeconiah and how his life revealed the beautiful reality of God's boundless love and mercy. Jeconiah was an evil man, so God gave him into the hands of his enemies and cursed him with no children. But while he was in exile, the king called out to God to forgive him. God heard his plea and gave him a son, which he named Shieltiel meaning “I Asked God”. In the sight of the Lord, Jeconiah was a new man, and so he was set free from prison, clothed in new robes, and fed at the table of the king of Babylon. This was a spectacular end to our Biblical Theology class and this semester.

Last week, we had the opportunity to host a concert with Michael Card and Jeff Taylor. What an incredible evening! With the Lamplighter chapel filled to its highest capacity these two talented musicians set the crowd in awe with their stellar performance. The room was filled with such a deep sense of sobriety and wonder as they sang songs in remembrance of the death, suffering, and resurrection of Christ Jesus.

Today was the Masters Guild's first rehearsal for the musicians performing in our upcoming musical! We are enthusiastic to bring these all-original songs to the stage, using the talent we have on campus! Thus far, we have Nina Colman playing the violin, Molly Mayo playing the flute, and Sarah Prenevost accompanying on the piano. We look forward to seeing God use these beautiful songs and skillful people to minister to those who come.

This week, we are excited to host Michael Card at the Masters Guild as he teaches “The Imagination Series.” We will be focusing on how to approach God’s Word by seeking inspiration from the gospels and using reason to discover its hidden treasures. There is so much to uncover if we simply look! And what better life to understand than the life of Christ?! We look forward to watching our imaginations paint the beautiful landscape of Jesus’ life, all to gain a clearer picture of the God we serve!

It is a great joy to invite the local community in what we do here at Lamplighter! So today, we took a trip downtown to post fliers for our upcoming Michael Card concert.

Coming soon to Lamplighter is a live musical rendition of the incredible story of Jacob performed by the Masters Guild. Staff and students are working ceaselessly to prepare for this life changing drama: creating all-new set design, scripts, costuming, and music! See us take a unique spin on this classic Bible story and experience an evening you will not soon forget.

Week 12, Day 3: Dr. Lew Sterrett took his class to Letchworth State Park to find “teachable moments” in our surroundings. Each student had to search for an analogy in nature that could explain an eternal truth and share a verse that corresponded with that lesson. At the end of the trip, we presented what we found and left understanding how God intricately designed nature to reveal Himself to mankind.

Week 12, Day 2: Lew Sterrett taught his first class, Biblical Leadership Through Nature. Today, we learned about how God’s orderly system for building the world teaches us the best system for construction. For example, although God’s end purpose for creation was to have fellowship with us, He didn’t start by making mankind. He began by creating a place in which we could live. When we are landscaping, we can follow the same principle. We should not begin with the exciting details but must first thinking about planning, hardscape, softscape, and maintaining. Then we can experience the joy of fellowship that comes with inviting our loved ones to enjoy it too.
