April 4, 1994, Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark created the Mosaic Communications Corporation, which would later be renamed Netscape Communications Corporation.

Andreessen developed the Mosaic web browser while working at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois.

Netscape's web browser was once dominant regarding usage share but lost most of that share to Internet Explorer during the first browser war.
