Today is Black Women’s Equal Pay Day. Black cisgendered women typically earn $0.62 cents for every dollar that a non-Hispanic white cisgendered man makes, making TODAY the day a black woman would have to work until to earn the same as a white man earned in 2019. The would give black women a valubale tool in the fight for pay equity.

On this day in 1970, Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm presented her Speech for the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. House of Representatives. Chisholm, the first black candidate to be nominated by a majority party for the Presidency, supported the during her time in Congress and the House of Representatives.

Happy Birthday to the great Amelia Earhart! Earhart was a record-breaking pilot and author, becoming the first female aviator to navigate a solo flight across the Atlantic. She was also an early supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment, and was a member of Alice Paul's National Woman's Party.
