The beginning of the school year usually comes with a lot of questions about what we need to add.
New strategies.
New routines.
New systems.
New goals.
But before adding anything new, it may be worth looking back.
What worked last year that deserves to come with you?
What didn’t work that you don’t need to repeat just because it’s familiar?
And maybe the most important question:
What do you want your students to experience differently this year?
Not just what do you want them to learn.
What do you want them to experience?
More confidence?
More belonging?
More productive struggle?
More opportunities to think for themselves?
More meaningful relationships?
More joy in learning?
Reflection isn’t only something we do at the end of the year.
Sometimes looking back is exactly how we decide how we want to move forward.
Before this school year gets too far underway, give yourself permission to keep what worked, release what didn’t, and be intentional about what comes next.
Teachers, what is ONE thing you want your students to experience differently this year?
