In just two short years of participating in TSSAA Girls Bowling, the GHHS Lady Hawks have done the unthinkable - they punched their ticket to STATE!! 😎
In a season with only 6 total bowlers, and Sr Bayley Walter out with an injury most of it - these ladies just kept finding ways to win. Today’s match in Cookeville vs Upperman HS was a rematch from earlier this season, where the Bees travelled to our center for a non-district match. Home field advantage IS a thing, and we had the upper hand in that earlier game where we won 20-7. Now we face them in their house, and the first two games showed their ability to bowl well.
In GM 1, UHS won 4 of the 6 indv points, and took the game 914-864. GM 2, Coach flipped the lineup around to try to gain more indv points. That didn’t work - Upperman still won 4 of the 6 indv matches; but we BOWLED better and won the 2 Team game pts 908-874. Down 6-10 we had two ways to pull out a win: (1) sweep the two baker games, or (2) win one baker game and baker total by 17 or more pins.
Baker #1 the game was very tight thru 8 frames, but then Coach asked Nicki D to “throw me a Strike”…and she did! Then our top bowler Lindsey Nelson threw 3 strikes in the 10th, and we win it 156-123. Now we’re UP 17 pins in Total Pins, so we just need to keep it close - close it was all game…Lindsey stepped up in the 10th needing two strikes for the win; she nailed the first one, then left a 10-pin…Made the spare. That set the stage for their great top bowler Kalli Patton - she could roll 3 strikes to TIE us in total pins, and they would win. She rolled a perfect first strike, but then got 8 - and our Lady Hawks WIN 14-13, taking Total Pins by 10!! 😛🥰
Lindsey led the way again with a 211 & 181…but every girl contributed with huge effort and great shots when they needed to!
The TSSAA State Team Championships will be next Thursday/Friday at Smyrna Bowling Center. We will roll in the quarterfinals on Thursday 1/22 at 1:00pm…Come out and cheer your Lady Hawks on to more glory!! 🎳💚🤍
