🏫 Today's the day! We can't wait to see our students and families at "Meet the Teacher Night"! 🏫

Mark your calendars! Our Meet the Teacher Night is Monday, August 10th. Kindergarten will meet in the gym from 4:30-5:00 p.m., and 1st through 5th grade may come between 5:00-6:30 p.m. We hope to see you there! 😄🏫

We’re thrilled to welcome Ms. Dogan BACK to the Pinewood family! She completed her student teaching at Pinewood years ago and is excited to return! Her elementary experience, as well as her positivity and kindness, will serve our first grade students well! Here is a message from her:

“My name is Mary Jo Dogan and I am excited to be joining the 1st grade team at Pinewood! I have spent the last 12 years teaching at Tuckaseegee Elementary in Charlotte. I live in Mt. Holly and look forward to serving this great community.

I will work hard to create a safe, loving and joyful classroom where we will explore, learn and share together. I also love to incorporate the arts into learning, so I am excited to join Pinewood’s Performing Arts Program!

When I am not at school, I love to spend time with my 4 children and enjoy working in my yard, swimming, and reading. My favorite place is the beach. I look forward to an awesome year and can’t wait to meet everyone!”

We're so proud of these students for participating in the Mount Holly Police Department's Kids Camp this summer! Students toured WBTV's news studio, learned about race cars and police investigations, went fishing, and much more - building strong leadership skills all along the way! As one officer said, this program hopes to inspire students to become "a light in their community." Thank you to the Mount Holly PD, the City of Mount Holly, NC, and everyone who supported this awesome opportunity for Gaston County students!

The countdown is on! We are just one week away from the Ready, Set, Grow: A Community Back-to-School Event.

Join the Gaston County Early Literacy Collaborative along with community sponsors CaroMont Health and Kintegra Health on Saturday, August 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Eastridge Mall for a day focused on helping families prepare for the new school year.

Families can pick up free school supplies while supplies last, enjoy a free meal, learn about on-site school physicals (limited appointments available through Kintegra Health), and schedule immunizations to make sure students are ready for the first day of school.

We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Zapata to the Pinewood family! Her positivity, calm personality, and bilingual skills (in English and Spanish) will be a great support to our pre-school students and families! Here is a message from Mrs. Zapata:

“My name is Veronica Zapata, and I am excited to be joining the Pre-K team! I am currently working toward my degree in Early Childhood Education at Gaston College and have also earned a Special Needs Certificate. I previously worked as a one-on-one, supporting children with different abilities.

I love working with children because I enjoy helping them learn, grow and build confidence. I believe that strong partnerships between school and families is key to every child’s success.
I am passionate about creating a supportive learning environment and look forward to working together with families throughout the school year.

In my free time, I enjoy taking walks with my German Shepherd, spending time with my granddaughters and family, and visiting the beach. I am excited for a wonderful school year and can’t wait to meet everyone!”
