Tonight at the Regular Meeting of the Trustees of Jefferson Township, Firefighter Tyler Streib was recognized for his actions earlier this year.
On the morning of Feb 16, 2026, the Jefferson Township Fire Department duty crew was paged to a vehicle fire on US 30. During operations on the emergency scene, coupled with the extreme fog during that day, doing the very best job they could to mitigate the situation, a second emergency was triggered: a multiple vehicle accident involving two semis and a passenger sedan. Almost immediately, the overturned semi caught fire with the driver trapped inside the cab; the car soon after also ignited. As fate would have it, Firefighter Tyler Streib was responding in the squad to the initial call and was on the scene of the second call at the time of occurance. Firefighter Streib did not hesitate, putting his newly gained skills as an Ohio Firefighter II to work, showing the grit and courage of a veteran firefighter. Firefighter Streib pulled the semi truck driver from the cab of his truck. Hearing the second victim in the sedan calling for help, as his car was also on fire, Firefighter Streib pulled the second victim free from his vehicle and then did his best to render first aid to the second victim until help arrived.
For his life saving actions on Feb 16, 2026, Firefighter Streib is awarded the 2026 Chiefs Award.
