Yesterday, the MDCA Academic Success Center hosted our first Champions Hour!

In-season athletes, artists, and performers: Take advantage of this awesome opportunity to get extra academic support every Wednesday from 2:20-3:20 p.m.

Study for an upcoming test, review notes, complete homework, and prepare to succeed in the classroom before you hit the court, field, or stage. Students may also use this time to complete a makeup assessment or MLO in our afternoon assessment lab.

Mount Dora Christian Academy & Children’s Home mourns the passing of longtime friend and generous supporter William “Bill” H. Sasser, who passed away on August 12 at the age of 94.

Bill lived a remarkable life dedicated to service, education, and generosity. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he went on to have a long career in horticulture education, sharing his knowledge and love of the natural world with generations of students.

That commitment to education was also reflected in his generosity toward MDCA. In 1999, Bill and his wife, Nell, established the Erma W. Hamilton Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund in memory of Nell’s mother, a beloved elementary school teacher for more than 40 years. Since its establishment, the fund has distributed more than $65,000 to help our graduates with financial need pursue a college or university education.

Together, Bill and Nell created a legacy that continues to invest in the lives and futures of our students. We are deeply grateful for Bill’s longtime friendship and support of MDCA and for the lasting difference he has made in our community.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Nell and the Sasser family as we remember and celebrate a life devoted to service, learning, and giving.
