Fall Break is here! HCLC will be closed this week as we take some time to rest and recharge.

We hope our students enjoy the break, get some well-deserved rest, and spend quality time with family and friends. We’ll see everyone back at HCLC on October 19!

FEATURE FRIDAY | MRS. BETH KNIGHT

This week, we’re featuring Mrs. Beth Knight, HCLC’s Administrative Assistant! Beth is also an HCLC alum and was honored with the Sylvia B. Palmer Award during her time as a student. After spending decades traveling the world with her military husband, James, and their three children, she returned to HCLC in 2021.

From selling snacks and saying “What can I get you?” to being on stage with the Backstreet Boys, Beth has plenty of stories to tell! We’re so thankful to have her back at HCLC and part of the team.

Think you can create the next HCLC T-shirt? Our 2026 Student T-Shirt Design Competition is here!

Students can create a T-shirt design around this year’s theme: Shining the Light. Designs are due October 28, and students must have parent permission to participate.

Once the shirts go on sale, the student who sells the most items during the 3-week competition will win a gift card bundle!

There is no cost to participate, and all proceeds support HCLC. Bonfire will handle shipping directly to buyers.

Ready to get creative and shine the light? Get your permission form signed and start designing!

TRUTH TUESDAY | Talk It Out.

Research suggests that talking face-to-face can lead to a better mood and, when conflict comes up, can help people understand each other better than communicating through text.

That connects directly to what Mrs. Harrison’s students are learning as they begin their unit on communication and conflict resolution. Learning how to listen, communicate clearly, and work through disagreements is a skill that matters far beyond the classroom.

Sometimes, the best response to a difficult text is simple: put the phone down and have the conversation.

INSIDE HCLC

Mr. Hulsey’s students took the story of Joseph off the page and brought it to life! After reading the story, students wrote and performed their own plays based on Joseph’s story.

A great way to dig deeper into Scripture while building creativity, teamwork, and confidence.

Beyond the Bell Recap!

Our first Beyond the Bell session was a great start. Students met at HCLC after school to learn how we got the Bible, helpful tips for studying it, and how to get started with a Bible reading plan.

We’re thankful to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for hosting and helping make this opportunity possible. And, of course, no after-school session is complete without some chips and salsa!

We’re looking forward to the next one!

Mission Monday | What Your Donations Make Possible

Because of the generosity of our supporters, 116 students are part of HCLC across 7 daily classes—with a welcoming place during their school day to ask honest questions about God, faith, and life.

This semester, students have asked questions like:
“How do I help a friend without seeming judgmental?”
“Why do I feel so alone?”
“Why should I get baptized?”
“Is it okay if I don’t feel God right now?”

These are real questions from real students. And because of your support, we get to meet them with truth, compassion, and the gospel—sharing the gospel with seekers and discipling believers.
