Next Friday is “Day for Dolly!” Wear bright colors and bring a book to read in her memory.
Dear Franklin Families,
This week, we celebrate the joy of reading and the lifelong love of books. We are especially grateful for the many people who have helped children discover the magic of stories, including Dolly Parton, lovingly known to millions of children as the “Book Lady.”
Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Dolly helped place books into the hands and homes of children around the world. Her generosity encouraged generations of young people to read, learn, dream big, and care for others.
On Friday, September 4, Franklin Elementary will celebrate a “Day for Dolly” in honor of her love of children, literacy, kindness, and big dreams.
Students and staff are invited to wear country-inspired clothing, such as cowboy boots, cowboy hats, fringe, or other school-appropriate country-style items. Please remember that all clothing must follow the school dress code. Weapons, toy weapons, and costumes are not allowed.
Throughout the day, students will enjoy special reading time, share their favorite books and stories, reflect on their dreams for the future, and be challenged to show kindness to someone else. Each child will also bring home a free book to enjoy with their family. Our celebration will focus on the values Dolly modeled so beautifully: Dream More. Learn More. Care More. Be More.
We hope this will be a joyful and meaningful opportunity for our Bulldogs to celebrate reading, honor the “Book Lady,” and remember the difference that books, kindness, and imagination can make.
Thank you for helping us celebrate the joy of reading and the love of books.
