Our Pre-K teachers, Mrs. Casey and Mrs. Marissa "planted" flowers during their lunch today. Mrs. Casey's church donated the flowers to be included in our campus beautification project. A BIG thank you goes out to these ladies and Mount Airy Wesleyan Church.

Good evening. This is Tamara Martin with information for this week.
Starting tomorrow our Kindergarten students will begin eating breakfast in the cafeteria before 8:00. Students will report to their classroom to drop off their backpack, pick up their lanyard, and walk to breakfast. After eating they will return to their classroom. There are many adults in the hallways and cafeteria to assist your child with this new routine. Parents will not be able to walk their child to class. Thank you for helping us with this new routine.
On Wednesday our third grade students will take the Beginning of Grade 3 reading test. Please make sure your child is on time and eats breakfast either at school or at home.
Also on Wednesday we will welcome half of our Pre-K students. On Thursday we will welcome the other half of our Pre-K students. On Friday all Pre-K students will be in attendance. Parents of Pre-K students who wish to walk their child to the classroom for this week only should park in a parking spot near the PK-2 building.

5th graders in Miss Ramey's class used sentence strips to help them sequence facts about the structure of living organisms.

Bottled water has been provided for students and staff. School operations are proceeding as normal.

| Good morning. The City of Mount Airy has identified an issue with the water supply serving all schools in the North District and is working to resolve it. The cause of the issue is still being investigated, but the water has been confirmed safe for consumption. The water does, however, have an unusual odor.

Out of an abundance of caution, Surry County Schools is providing bottled water to students and staff at all affected locations.

Bathrooms throughout the affected schools remain safe to use, and school operations will continue as normal. We anticipate the issue will be resolved quickly and will share additional updates as more information becomes available.

We appreciate the City of Mount Airy’s efforts to address the issue and thank our families and staff for their patience and understanding.

Second grade classes were actively engaged in a Save Fred STEM activity. This is a classic team-building challenge where students work in small groups to rescue "Fred" (a gummy worm) whose boat (a plastic cup) has capsized, trapping his life preserver (a gummy ring) underneath. Students must put the life preserver on Fred and return him to the boat using only paper clips.

Good evening. This is Tamara Martin with information for this week.
After-school care will begin tomorrow. Please make sure you have completed the application and paid the registration fee. We are still accepting applications. Call the school if you need to enroll your child.
On Tuesday, we will hold our first PTO meeting. We invite all parents and staff members to join us in the media center at 5:30. We will be electing officers and discussing ideas for this school year.
On Wednesday, we will have our first announced fire drill. Please talk to your child and let them know this is a drill. Staff members will review all safety procedures before the drill. Take this opportunity to talk to your child about what they should do in the event the fire alarm goes off at home.
Also on Wednesday, our School Improvement team will meet in the media center at 3:15.
On Thursday, students will start their beginning-of-year reading assessment. Please make sure your child is present and has eaten breakfast either at home or at school. Results will be sent home as soon as we are finished.

Cue the first days of school photos - Peep our 3rd and 4th grade crew!

Ms. Potts' third graders put their teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills to the test! Using spaghetti noodles and marshmallows, they worked together to build towers and creative structures. So much fun, laughter, and learning along the way! They also made a class paper chain.

Cue the first days of school photos - 5th Grade Edition

We loved seeing our halls and classrooms full of happy faces again.

5th grade students in both Miss Ramey and Mr. Eaton's classes engaged in a team building activity where they had to join hands in a circle and work together to maneuver a hula hoop all the way around without breaking their hand-hold chain. They were using communication skills, problem-solving skills, and coordination skills.

Marshmallows were also a key ingredient in team building as students were tasked to use marshmallows and spaghetti noodles to see how they could work together to build the tallest tower.
