West Virginia School of Preaching

West Virginia School of Preaching Our mission at the West Virginia School of Preaching is to save souls by training men to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (2 Timothy 2:2).

Training men to preach Christ, completely, accurately, and powerfully The West Virginia School of Preaching (WVSOP) was established in 1994 under the oversight of the eldership of the Hillview Terrace church of Christ in Moundsville, West Virginia. Our mission is simple: to help save souls by training men to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2). This mission i

s carried out through a rigorous two-year course of study designed to develop a comprehensive understanding of God’s Word, sound Bible interpretation, and faithful New Testament preaching. Our faculty consists of educated and experienced preachers and teachers who are committed to both conviction and clarity. Students also receive extensive opportunities to preach and teach with area congregations, gaining practical experience and sharpening their ability to serve effectively in local work or mission fields. The world still needs the Word preached completely, accurately, and powerfully—and we aim to help train men to do exactly that.

2026 Victory Lectures
Are you as excited as we are for the upcoming WVSOP Victory Lectures?

Here’s a preview of what’s coming—a powerful quote from one of the manuscripts featured in the soon-to-be-released 2026 Victory Lectureship book.

"As we step back from Jude 3, we are reminded that God has not
left His people wandering in confusion or uncertainty. He has given
us a compass that never fails, a map that never misleads and a
revelation that never changes. “The faith” is not something we are
searching for—it is something that has been delivered. It is not
evolving with the times—it has been once for all given. And it is not
entrusted to scholars alone—but to every saint who belongs to Jesus
Christ." (Sproule 319)

Opportunities to Preach. Opportunities to Serve. Opportunities to Grow.

One of the great blessings available to our students at the West Virginia School of Preaching is the multiple opportunities to preach by appointment throughout the Ohio Valley.

Our students need opportunities to practice what they are learning in the classroom, and many congregations need someone to fill the pulpit when they do not have a full-time minister or when their regular preacher is away. It is a wonderful partnership. Our students gain valuable experience preaching the Word, while congregations receive encouragement and assistance.

In fact, there is often more need than the school can fill!

If your congregation has an opportunity for one of our students to come preach, teach a Bible class, or fill in for a Sunday, please let us know by contacting the school office at 304-845-8001.

We would also love the opportunity to tell your congregation more about the work of WVSOP. Our recruiter, David Deagel, is always eager to visit congregations, share what is happening at the school, and encourage faithful men to consider preparing themselves for greater service in the Kingdom.

If your congregation would be interested in scheduling a WVSOP presentation, you can view David’s available dates here:

You may also schedule a visit by contacting the school office at 304-845-8001.

Thank you for giving our students opportunities to preach and for helping us find the next generation of faithful gospel preachers.

Cedrick Goddard preaching during chapel at the West Virginia School of Preaching.

Over the years, we have had students come at different stages of life. Men from 65 years old and older to young men just 18, fresh out of high school. Different ages. Different backgrounds. Different experiences. But they come with a common purpose: to study God’s Word, to grow in their ability to serve, and to proclaim the truth with boldness.

We are thankful for Cedrick and for every man who is willing to put in the hours of study, preparation, and practice necessary to become a better servant of Christ. It is encouraging to watch these men mature—not only as students and preachers, but as Christians prepared to labor in the Lord’s kingdom.

They study. They grow. They preach.

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season.” — 2 Timothy 4:2

We have a great group for the 2026-2027 academic year. We are thankful for each one and excited to see the work God’s Word equips them to do.

We are thankful that the West Virginia School of Preaching can provide space for more than classroom instruction. It is also a place where Christians can gather to study, encourage one another, and grow in God’s Word.

These ladies meet in the West Virginia School of Preaching multipurpose room each month, typically on the last Tuesday, to participate in Cindy Colley’s “Digging Deep” Bible Study through The Colley House. Two additional ladies join the study remotely by conference call, allowing the fellowship and study to extend beyond those gathered in the room.

They have just completed “The God of More,” a year-long study emphasizing the abundant goodness, grace, and provision of God. Next month, they will begin a brand-new study, “The Hand of God.”

We are grateful for faithful Christian women who recognize the importance of continuing to dig deeply into Scripture, no matter their age or stage of life.

2026 Sing & Pie Fling
What a great evening at the West Virginia School of Preaching Sing & Pie Fling!

We are so thankful for the wonderful turnout and for everyone who came to enjoy an evening of singing, fellowship, laughter, and, of course, plenty of desserts!

We are very thankful for the encouragement that comes from Christians simply being together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening such a success and to all who continue to support and encourage the work of WVSOP.

We are truly blessed
