Thirteen second-year student doctors at PCOM South Georgia will receive a special certificate in recognition of their commitment to professional growth after attending all three sessions of the Professionalism & Professional Development series. 🎓🏅

The series featured “Professionalism Under Pressure: Lessons from Special Operations to Osteopathic Medical Students,” presented by Vance Collins; a session on Communication & Professional Behavior Expectations led by Student Affairs; and remarks from Tamara Scaccia, MBA, director of the Department of Clinical Education, and Randall L. Sisam, DO, MBA, MSMED, assistant dean of clinical education and associate professor of clinical medicine.

As these future physicians prepare for clinical rotations and residencies, they say they’ll put these lessons into practice through professionalism, effective communication, and compassionate, patient-centered care. 💙🥼

Daniel Chanelo is a medical student at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine South Georgia, where he is class chair and a leader in medical student organizations. His passion for cardiology has driven a growing research portfolio focused on filling gaps and removing barriers to cardiovascular care.

Daniel also helps lead an ongoing bilingual CPR and first aid training program for Hispanic migrant farmworkers in rural Georgia. He participates in community health fairs and has mentored local high school students exploring careers in medicine.

Guided by his Hispanic heritage and commitment to equitable care, Daniel aspires to a career in cardiology that integrates clinical practice, research, mentorship and community engagement.

This month, we’re honoring the strength of Hispanic and Latino communities across the U.S. and celebrating the changemakers transforming heart and brain health across communities. Together we can create healthier futures for all.

A huge thank you to Town & Country WALB for having Dr. Lissa P. Murphy and student doctor Misha Ul-Islam (DO '29) on to promote our Medical Rural Outreach Van, or MedROVer! 🚐 🩺

The MedROVer allows student doctors and faculty to travel throughout the South Georgia region, offering free rural health education. The unit is going to be traveling to the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie Oct. 20–22, so make sure to stop by for a free blood pressure check!

We were happy to show the Georgia Composite Medical Board (GCMB) around campus and offer a glimpse at our programs, simulation lab, and student body! 🩺🥼

The GCMB licenses healthcare professionals, regulates medical practice, and educates the public by handling complaints and verifying credentials. They also held their their October 1, 2026 meeting on campus!
