Our favorite day is chapel day at FLCA !
Our upper school students had a powerful chapel today with Mr. Colton Johnson! Mr. Colton is a member of Full Life, faithfully serves and was instrumental in starting the athletic department at FLCA years ago. We are so grateful he took time to come back, visit with our students, and bring the Word today.
His message, “Stop Hiding in Sin,” came from 1 John 1:5–9 and challenged our students to understand what happens when we allow sin to stay hidden.
Sin can begin with one seemingly small choice—a lie, a joke, a compromise—but when we continue feeding it in secret, it grows. The things we try to hide can begin affecting our attitudes, our relationships, and our walk with God.
But the message today wasn’t simply about exposing sin—it was about freedom.
He reminded our students that there is a difference between conviction and condemnation. The Holy Spirit’s conviction draws us toward God and repentance, while the enemy wants to convince us that we are too far gone, too dirty, or that God could never use us.
When we sin, we don’t run farther from God—we run TO Him.
One of the most powerful illustrations came when Mr. Colton revealed the torn clothing he had hidden underneath his suit. From the outside, everything looked put together—but underneath was something no one could see.
Such a reminder: we may be able to convince the people around us that everything is okay, but we can’t hide what’s underneath from God…. AND we don’t have to. God isn’t asking us to clean ourselves up before coming to Him. We come to Him as we are, and He is the One who cleans, restores, forgives, and makes us new.
As Proverbs 28:13 reminds us, hiding our sin keeps us bound, but confession and turning from it opens the door to mercy.
Getting help is not weakness. It is a brave step toward freedom. You don’t have to keep pretending everything is fine. Step into the light. God wants to restore you.
Thank you, Mr. Colton, for investing in our students and reminding them of the freedom that is found when we stop hiding and start walking in the light!
