Learning doesn't end when the symposium does.

Recently, we welcomed back 27 educators representing 11 schools from across Idaho for VELS Reunion Day. This special event gave participants from last year's Vandal Early Literacy Symposium the opportunity to reconnect with peers and mentors, share classroom successes and challenges and continue growing together.

Representing kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms and special education, these dedicated educators are putting the science of reading into practice every day. Reunion Day provided a space to reflect, collaborate and build on the work they're doing to improve literacy outcomes for Idaho's students.

Thank you to the educators from Lena Whitmore Elementary, A.B. McDonald Elementary, West Park Elementary, Moscow Charter School, Palouse Prairie Charter School, Lakeside School, Lapwai Elementary, Bonners Ferry School District, Oldtown Elementary, Priest River Lamanna High School and Idaho Falls School District for your continued commitment to student success.

This summer, EHHS expanded the Vandal Early Literacy Symposium by hosting it in Idaho Falls for the first time.

Educators from 14 schools across eastern Idaho came together to deepen their understanding of the science of reading and explore research-based strategies they can immediately apply in their classrooms. Participants included kindergarten through fifth grade teachers, special educators, paraprofessionals, Title I reading interventionists and homeschool educators.

By bringing the symposium to Idaho Falls, we're making high-quality professional learning more accessible to educators across the state—helping them build stronger readers and brighter futures for Idaho's students.

Thank you to the 28 educators who joined us for this inaugural event. We look forward to seeing the impact you'll make in your classrooms this school year!

This July, University of Idaho proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Vandal Early Literacy Symposium, made possible through the generosity of donors supporting the Garth and Francis Reid Literacy Initiative.

A total of 41 kindergarten through fifth grade teachers, special educators, paraprofessionals, Title I reading interventionists, school administrators, district leaders and Idaho Department of Education representatives came together to deepen their understanding of the science of reading. Participants learned from nationally recognized experts Jodi Dodson, Sally Brown and Bette Lovelace, gaining practical strategies to strengthen literacy instruction and improve student outcomes.

By investing their time and expertise, these educators continue their commitment to helping young learners build strong reading skills and lifelong success.
