From the football field to the forefront of nuclear research.
As a 6'8" Division I football player at the University of Idaho, Tanner Mauseth stood out for his size. Today, he's making a name for himself for something else: helping unlock the secrets of irradiated materials at Idaho National Laboratory.
The applied physics graduate now works as a research scientist at INL, using cutting-edge technology to study materials that could shape the future of nuclear energy. Along the way, he's earned a doctorate, contributed to critical nuclear fuel research, and is already mentoring the next generation of scientists.

College of Science alumna Veronica Blackham is helping shape national conversations about the future of math education.
At the Council of Chief State School Officers National Conference on Student Assessment in Austin, Texas, Blackham presented in two sessions alongside education leaders from across the country.
Her presentations explored how students connect math to future opportunities and how digital badges and micro-credentials are changing the way learning is recognized.
We're proud to see a Vandal making an impact on education at the national level.

How should college math evolve in the age of AI?
Jennifer Johnson Leung, professor of mathematics at the University of Idaho, recently helped lead that conversation at the Summit on Modernizing Undergraduate Mathematics. She presented on U of I's AI literacy framework and worked with education leaders from across the country to develop ideas for the future of undergraduate math education.
As technology changes, so does the way we prepare students to think critically, solve problems and succeed in STEM.
