Moscow Bears Cross Country

State XC Championships today! It’s a perfect day for racing down at Eagle Island State Park. The girls race at 10am MST and the boys race at 11:30am MST.

Last week the Bears completed at districts and had some dramatic races! In both the girls and boys races there were ties in the team results. On the individual side the Bears managed a girls and boys pair of podium finishes as well.

The girls finished 3rd behind a Sandpoint and Lakeland tie for 1st. Missing out on a team ticket to state this year in a hard fought district race. Anna Lynn finished 3rd overall to secure an individual spot to state. And Cora Crawford successfully defended her district title to secure her spot as well!

The boys were in the middle of another dramatic race. They tied for 2nd with Lakeland but when it came down to the 6th runner tie breaker, the Bears came out on top and punched a ticket to state! Ethan Fenley and Orion McClory led the team with a 3rd and 4th place finish!

🏁 Race Day! 🏁

The Bears have been on a roll lately with a couple of meet wins and top 3 finishes. After some downtime, the Bears are ready to take on the District course at Farragut State Park. This year the challenge will be turned up a notch as we now have 4 teams in the newly aligned District I-II 5A class. Should make for some great championship racing!

Senior Spotlight: Noah Bujnicki
Noah has 3 years of cross country under his belt. He is one of many siblings pairs that have been through the program. But he has forged his own path after seeing his old brother do the same. Noah has put the in work, shown his dedication and as a result is a key piece of our varsity squad.

🏁 Race Day! 🏁
The Bears head up north to the Battle For The 509 in Spokane, WA. This race always provides great competition and a FAST course! A number of athletes usually set their PR on this course, so keep an eye on those live results. 👀

Senior Spotlight: Meghan Howard
Meghan is in her 3rd season of XC. When she is not leading the team chants, she’s helping build you up. She’s a leader on and off the course. A great example for the classes to come. But don’t get caught in a foot race with her down the home stretch, she’s got a lethal kick! 🏃‍♀️💨

⏪ Meet Recap ⏪
The Bears traveled to Boise last weekend to compete at one of the largest meets in PNW. With over 170 schools and nearly 5000 athletes, there was no shortage of competition.

The team toughened out the hot conditions and put up a good effort. The biggest win of the day being the experience and knowledge gained of racing on this year’s state XC course!

🏁Race Day!🏁
Big day for the Bears today at the Bob Firman Invitational. With over 170 teams registered there are bound to be some fireworks. This also doubles as a great preview for this year’s state meet, which will also be on the same course.

Senior Spotlight: Erica Hall
Erica is in her 4th season of cross country. She’s one of the most sincere and hardworking individuals. Over the years she has consistently put in the work and now finds herself as one of the staples of our varsity team. A great example and amazing teammate!

The Bears are coming off a great showing last week at the Hawk Invite. 19 personal records and 10 season best performances catapulted the Bears to a 2nd place on the girls side and a 1st place on the boys side!

The girls had five runners on the podium. Cora led the way as the meet champion, followed by Anna in 5th, Erica in 11th, Angie in 13th and Bela in 15th to round out the podium spots for the girls.

The boys had three runners on the podium. Ethan led the way in 3rd, followed by Orion in 5th and John in 9th to round out the podium spots for the boys.

🏁 Race Day 🏁

The Bears head to Walla Walla, WA for the Hawk Invite. This is a meet they are all too familiar with. The last time the Bears completed at the Hawk Invite in 2022 they swept the Boys and Girls team titles. Hopefully for some more fireworks this time around!

Senior Spotlight: Dwight Abbott
Dwight is in his 4 season of XC. He has quite the range as he runs XC in the fall then, he sprints and pole vaults in the spring. It’s no wonder he’s so mentally tough and always has that competitive spirit!

⏪ Meet Recap ⏪

The Bears had a great showing at the Highland Invitational in Spokane, WA last week. The sophomore boys placed the highest on the team side with a 2nd place finish. Ethan Fenley led the way for the sophomore boys with a 7th place finish and podium.

On the girls side, Cora Crawford took a 7th place of her own in the junior race to make the podium as well. Only the senior girls fielded enough runners to score and came out with a 9th place finish.

The Bears head to Spokane, WA to complete at the Highlander Invitational for the first time. This all day race event will have everyone racing by class.

The freshman boys crew will be will kick us off at 10:00am. Followed by the freshman girls crew and so on as we work our way through the classes. Should make for an exciting day of racing!

Senior Spotlight: Chloe Johnson
Chloe is on her 4th season of XC. She’s competitive on the course and the friendliest off it. If you can’t catch her on the course, chances are she’s already beat ya to the thrift shop!

The Bears kickoff the 2024 cross country season last week in Farragut!

The JV boys took 5th place in a race with over 300 runners! Overall, it was a great first race of the season. Most of the team was at or better than their personal best on the Farragut course.

The Bears will be back in a Farragut next month for the district meet!

🏁 Meet Preview 🏁

The Bears head north for the Farragut Invitational hosted by Timberlake. The meet will host a whopping 43 teams from both Idaho and Washington. This will be a huge and competitive race for the first race of the season.

Senior Spotlight: Mina Briggs
Mina is in her 4th season of XC! She is one of five seniors on the girls side and always shows her team spirit. When she’s not racing you can find her running around with Mack (life size stuffed bear mascot)!
