Today was glasses distribution day at NBES! Aren’t they so cute? 🥳🎉🤓

During the first week of September, we partnered with Brooks County Family Connection and Vision to Learn. Select students were screened and fitted for glasses. The exams and glasses are free to the students and covered by funding through the Community Transformation Grant from the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL).

These glasses will make a huge difference to these students, and we are very appreciative to Brooks County Family Connections for bringing this resource to our community!

🎨🍰 Sweet Helpers, SWEET Art! 🍰🎨

We had the BEST helpers, lending a hand to hang this sweet hallway display of Wayne Thiebaud-inspired artwork! These girls worked hard to help show off the creativity and talent of our NBES artists, and we are so proud of their willingness to jump in and help!

From colorful cakes and sweet treats to beautiful works of art, this hallway display is almost good enough to eat! 😍🧁

At NBES, we love seeing our students shine both inside and outside the classroom. Good Things Grow Here! 🌻

Today our little 1st grade scientists had some spooky science fun! We used water, vegetable oil, food coloring, and Alka-Seltzer tablets to create our colorful experiments. 🧪🧪

We learned that oil and water do not mix, and when we added the Alka-Seltzer, the real fun began! The tablet reacted with the water and created carbon dioxide gas bubbles, which carried the colored water up through the oil. As the bubbles popped, the colored water sank back down creating a cool lava lamp effect!

Our third graders had a busy day developing their understanding of soil! Students observed and recorded the properties of sand, clay, and loam, and they even used a microscope to observe soil particles up close! 🔬

They drew connections between what they saw and what they have learned in science and math! They practiced reading a bar graph to determine which type of soil held the most water, and to wrap up their learning, students added a diagram of the four layers of soil to their science journals!

So much observing, questioning, recording, and learning took place today! 3rd Grade scientists are growing every day! Good things grow here! 🌻

Good moooooo-rning! Our agriculture classes have been learning all about cows and have signed up for the Virtual Cow Adoption Program. It was officially Cow Adoption Day yesterday in exploratory! 🐮🖤

Mrs. Smith introduced our cow to all of the classes in the gym. K-1 made paper plate cows to predict how our cow would look. 2-3 practiced ‘milking’ a cow with a rubber glove and learned how milk goes from the farm to consumer. Finally, students talked about dairy products and byproducts in 4-5 grade and made butter out of heavy whipping cream!

Congratulations to our NBES September Student of the Month, Logan Weaver! Logan was nominated by several teachers and won the whole school vote by a landslide. 🌟

Staff members commented on how much growth and improvement Logan has made recently, and how he is a true leader among his peers! He always tries to do the right thing, and he spreads his 2RC everywhere he goes! Keep up the great work, Logan! We are proud of you!
