What makes Clayton State stand out? Decor Hint recently featured the University in an article highlighting Clayton State’s No. 1 ranking among Georgia’s Best Small Colleges for 2027, according to Niche, and the many qualities that make our university unique.

As the article notes, “Small colleges offer something big schools often struggle with. You are a name, not just a number on a seating chart.”

The feature also highlights our commitment to affordable, high-value education, our scenic 192-acre campus featuring five lakes, our diverse campus community, and the academic programs and student opportunities that help Lakers prepare for the future.

Clayton State University will resume normal operations on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Some buildings sustained storm-related impacts and will be evaluated through the weekend.

Clayton State University leadership is actively monitoring the weather conditions expected to impact our area this weekend.

Please review the following important information:

Hurricane Isaias is forecast to travel north, placing our area at low risk, with potential wind gusts of 35–45 mph and rainfall totals of 2–4 inches. A flood watch is also in effect. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution, some on-campus services and activities have been postponed or rescheduled.

However, classes and dining operations will proceed as normal. Please check campus emails for details regarding campus activities on Saturday.

Your safety is our top priority, so we encourage everyone to keep the following important reminders in mind:

 Plan ahead: Review your travel plans and allow extra time to reach your destination safely before severe weather arrives.
Care Center: Located in Edgewater Hall, 245 will be open until 7pm on Friday, October 9, 2026, and closed on Saturday, October 10th.

Avoid unnecessary travel: Stay off the roads during severe weather and never drive through flooded areas.
Prepare for power outages: Charge electronic devices and have flashlights, batteries, medications, water and other emergency supplies readily available.

Secure your surroundings: Bring loose outdoor items inside and avoid areas prone to flooding.

Stay informed: Monitor local weather forecasts and official university communications.

Stay connected: Make sure your contact information is current to receive university emergency alerts.

A Clayton State composition is taking the stage. 🎶

Dr. Jacob Lee, Assistant Professor of Music in the Department of Film, Communication, and Performing Arts at Clayton State, will debut his original work Antiphon with the Southern Crescent Symphony Orchestra during its upcoming “Remembering” concert, honoring the legacy of music educator and conductor Ed Davis.

Commissioned in Davis’ honor, Antiphon draws inspiration from his legacy in band music and his love of British folk tunes, influences Lee thoughtfully incorporated into the piece.

After months of bringing the composition from an idea at the piano to a finished score, Lee recently had the opportunity to hear the orchestra perform it for the first time.

“It’s really just a joy to hear live musicians do your stuff,” Lee said.
Now, the full composition will take the stage for its debut at Spivey Hall.
