🎨 POKÉMON TCG ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: MITSUHIRO ARITA 🎨

You may not know the name Mitsuhiro Arita, but you almost definitely know his work.

He’s been illustrating Pokémon cards since the very beginning of the TCG, and some of his most famous artwork includes the original:

🔥 Charizard
⚡ Pikachu
💧 Squirtle
🔮 Mewtwo

When Arita first started working on Pokémon cards, many of the references he had were little more than the original Game Boy sprites — meaning a lot of the personality and atmosphere in those early cards came from the artists themselves.

Nearly 30 years later, his artwork is still showing up on Pokémon cards.

Not a bad résumé. 👀

🏴‍☠️ ONE PIECE CARD GAME TRIVIA 🏴‍☠️

Here’s an odd little tournament rule you might not know:

At official events in North America, your Leader and Main Deck cards must be in English.

Your DON!! Deck is the exception. 👀

Officially distributed DON!! cards can be used in ANY language at official tournaments.

So if you’ve collected some cool Japanese, Chinese, French, or other DON!! designs over the years, you don’t necessarily have to leave them at home when it’s tournament time.

Sometimes the smallest deck gets the most freedom. 😂

⚡ A LITTLE POKÉMON TCG HISTORY ⚡

One month from today marks 30 years since the original Pokémon Card Game Base Set launched in Japan!

On October 20, 1996, the first Japanese Starter Pack and Expansion Pack were released, kicking off the Pokémon TCG as we know it today. The original set contained 102 cards and arrived more than two years before the English Base Set.

Three decades later, people are still collecting, trading, building decks, and arguing over which Pokémon deserves the best card art. 😂

Not bad for something that started with 151 little monsters.

🚨 RIFTBOUND BAN LIST UPDATE 🚨

A new Riftbound ban list takes effect today, September 18.

The following cards are now banned in Standard and Constructed 2v2:

🔵 Ekko, Recurrent
🟣 Stacked Deck

If either card is sitting in one of your tournament decks, make sure to update your list before your next event!

Riot says the changes are intended to reduce unhealthy combo patterns and bring some of the strongest strategies back in line with the rest of the field.
