To Dolly, a story or a song was not simply entertainment - it was a seed planted straight into a young heart. ๐ŸŽถ๐Ÿชด

From a young age, Dolly wrote and sang songs to entertain her large family, using music to process and express her feelings. That springboard helped her show kids how to use music to transform big emotions into beautiful expressions of kindness, bravery, and self-acceptance - a true art form.

โ€œWhen I was growing up in the hills of East Tennessee, I knew my dreams would come true. I know there are children in your community with their own dreams. They dream of becoming a doctor or an inventor or a minister. Who knows, maybe there is a little girl whose dream is to be a writer and singerโ€ฆโ€ - Dolly Parton

โœจWhile the world lost a light today, Dollyโ€™s legacy lives on in every child who learned to dream big.โœจ

The primary purpose of school music and sports programs is not to produce elite performers. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก

It is to develop young people who are:
โœ… able to think clearly
โœ… physically capable and well-regulated
โœ… adaptable in complex situations
โœ… able to work with others

Both music and sports contribute to all of these outcomes. They each develop:
- cognitive capacity
- physical coordination and control
- social connection and teamwork
- persistence and resilience

But they do this in different and complementary ways. Often, decisions are framed as sports or music. For student development, it must be sports AND music.

One alone is valuable. Together, they are more powerful. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

Caroline set a goal - to play the snare drum in her high schoolโ€™s marching band. She knew it would take hundreds of hours of dedicated practice to earn the coveted spotโ€”and she was willing to put in the hard work.

In her words, โ€œIt takes perseverance to handle the hours of practice and rehearsal and the repetition of perfecting a piece. It takes grit to handle the times when you make a mistake or struggle with a piece.โ€ You can imagine her excitement when she learned she had earned the spot in her marching band! ๐Ÿฅ

Now, after working with one of Infinite Music's Rising Starsโ„ข teaching artists, Caroline reflects on what music means to her: โ€œI canโ€™t imagine my life not having music in it.โ€

We couldnโ€™t agree more.โค๏ธ

โšกYou never know when - or where - inspiration to learn to play an instrument will strikeโ€ฆ

When Dianaโ€™s elementary school teacher launched a brand new music program, Diana was drawn to the saxophone, not because she loved the instrument, but because it was the only one she recognized from watching SpongeBob Squarepants! ๐ŸŽท

Her music journey eventually took her to strings for a time, but she returned to the saxophone with renewed determination. Working with Infinite Music teaching artist Dave Becker, Diana worked hard to prepare this rousing piece at our end-of-year showcase. ๐ŸŽต

A tiny spark of inspiration can lead to something incredibleโ€”and completely unexpected.

โ€œBe grateful for the tiny details of your life and make room for unexpected and beautiful blessings.โ€ โ€“ Henry Van D**e

Progress isnโ€™t instant, but every practice session counts. ๐ŸŽถ

Happy to all the young musicians putting in the hard work to make some noise - and some great music!! ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿฅ

Tell us in the comments: What instrument did you first try to play as a kid? (Recorders definitely count!๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป)

Sometimes the greatest transformation isn't learning to play an instrumentโ€”it's finding your voice.

When John joined Infinite Music's ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜€โ„ข program, he was a quiet, introverted high school student looking for oboe lessons. Year after year, working alongside one of our dedicated teaching artists, his confidence steadily grew.

At our most recent end-of-year showcase, John surprised us all. Before his performance, he asked if he could say a few words. Standing before the audience, he shared how much Infinite Music had changed his life and thanked his teacher for believing in him. He then performed beautifully on the oboe.

This is the power of music mentorshipโ€”helping students discover confidence, courage, and a lifelong love of music. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŽถ

Jingle Bells in July! ๐Ÿ”” ๐ŸŽน When a generous donor passed down their lovingly maintained piano to one of our Rising Stars Piano students, the impact was immediate. Having a real instrument at home means more consistent practice, quicker progress, and a major confidence boost for recitals and community performances. Weโ€™re so grateful โ€” "I'm so pleased my 1965 high school piano went to a fabulous new family." That's the gift of musicโฃ๏ธ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
