Happy Aviation Maintenance Technician Day to our maintenance team!
This weekend marked Aviation Maintenance Technician Day (May 24) — and we would like to take a moment to recognize the people who keep our aircraft safe, airworthy, and ready to fly. The date honors Charles E. Taylor, the mechanic who built the engine for the Wright brothers’ first flight and is regarded as the father of aviation maintenance.
Every safe flight at FlightGest Academy starts with the work our technicians do on the ground, often without the spotlight. To our maintenance team: thank you for your precision, your dedication, and your commitment to keeping all of us safe in the air.

Join us next Wednesday (May 27th) @ 5:00 PM for this month’s safety seminar 📅
TOPIC: Advanced Cross-Country Planning
PRESENTER: Daniel Vinson, CFI
📍Atlantic Aviation RDU Main Conference Room
Beyond the Basics! We will address real-world considerations such as weather routing, fuel stop selection, and choosing suitable alternates. Attendees will also learn how to prioritize passenger comfort and get the most out of modern planning tools like ForeFlight to build safer, more efficient flights.
Next the focus shifts to once you’re in the air and dynamic decision-making. This includes handling unexpected diversions and shifting weather to managing fatigue and making sound decisions. Emphasis will be placed on developing confident, well-reasoned go/no-go judgment when conditions change en route.
Attendance is open to the RDU flying community, and attendees are eligible to receive WINGS credit.
Members of Triangle Aviators who attend and fly 5 hours in the same month are eligible to receive 50% of their monthly fee credited back to their account.
Highly recommend trying flight training 🛫

Mark your calendars for our April Safety Seminar next week! 📅
WHEN: Wednesday, April 29th @ 5:00 PM Eastern
TOPIC: Passengers On Board: Mastering Safety, Communication, and Decision-Making in GA Flying
PRESENTER: Bryce Hattrup, CFI
WHERE: We’ll be meeting at Atlantic Aviation RDU in the main conference room (Room 100).
Flying with family and friends introduces a unique set of challenges that can quietly influence even the most disciplined pilots. This seminar explores how the presence of passengers affects flight risk, from subtle social pressures to increased cockpit distractions.
We will learn how to provide clear, effective passenger briefings that enhance safety of flight, reduce anxiety, and set realistic expectations before the engine ever starts and the wheels leave the ground.
Pilots will gain tools to maintain personal minimums, make confident go/no-go decisions, and communicate delays or cancellations with authority and professionalism without inducing anxiety. Whether you’re flying with first-timers or frequent passengers, this seminar will help you stay in command of both the aircraft and situation.
