We are a non-profit that partners with impoverished Guatemalan communities to provide greater educational opportunities for their children/young adults.

There is no country on earth whose majority population is both well-educated and impoverished. Unfortunately the education available to the Maya and other poor Guatemalans is wholly inadequate to the task of providing an education sufficient to raise them out of poverty. Many, perhaps most, students cannot multiply and divide, spell, punctuate a sentence, find anything on a map, or tell you the si

This year, 2023, we recruited 6 students to receive scholarships to attend diversificado (similar to US high school). In addition to their scholarships, we will help to secure their success by offering workshops on different topics. Our first workshop was just last week, where we reinforced grammar and writing skills. We also learned that some of our new students have never been to a movie nor even have left their remote villages. Stories like these make us proud to be supporting these kids, and encourages us to expand our reach.
Thank YOU for your continued support and donations.

El Porvenir is too small to have its own school, so students usually walk about 20 minutes to the next village to attend school. However, because the students have to cross a river that can sometimes flood, some village families donโ€™t allow their youngest children to make the crossing. Mynor saw that these children were falling behind in terms of education, so he decided to start teaching them the basics of reading and writing once a week. His class has already grown from the four students shown in the photo below to eight students, and he is now looking for funds to purchase better educational materials to help his students improve their reading and writing skills even more.

12 years ago, our 2 founders John Bodoh and Jorge Paque were having a workshop with GSSG students. Now, all of them are great professionals giving back to their communities! If you are one of those students, could you share what you are doing now?

Meet our students!
ERWIN
I am Erwin Oswaldo Cajbรณn Macz. I am 19 years old, and I live in the village of Las Mercedes Pasacuc, Cobรกn, Alta Verapaz. I am studying for a two-year nursing degree, at the Galileo University in Ixcan Playa Grande, Quiche.

I grew up in poverty; My father works and sacrifices himself in the fields to support us. I still remember that when I was a child we had a very humble wooden house and without good living conditions, because when it rained, water would enter the house. I would arrive at school in my brotherโ€™s sandals, because I had none to wear.

My life has been very difficult, so I will not stop striving for my education to be able to change this reality. My goal is to graduate with a licenciatura [bachelorโ€™s degree] in medicine and to help my family by giving talks on self-care. I want to help my community through supporting other young people so that they can get ahead in their education and give talks explaining the importance of education. The change of educational authorities for the elementary school is also approaching, and I am sure that the community expects a lot from me because I am the first and the only one who is a student at university in my community. I am willing to collaborate in whatever way I can to help my community.
