A new class with Arista Alanis !

In this hands-on abstract acrylic painting class, you’ll learn how to look at the world around you and transform real-life subjects, shapes, colors, and textures into expressive artwork.

Experiment with a playful mix of techniques, including spray paint and stencils and expressive brushwork like splattering, dripping, and pouring. Along the way, you’ll dive into color theory and color mixing, exploring how color combinations can create contrast, harmony, depth, and energy.

This class is all about experimentation, play, and developing your own artistic voice. Come ready to take risks, get messy, and discover new ways of seeing and making!

All materials provided.

Get creative with color, texture, and fiber in this hands-on weaving workshop with artist Brooke Berger! Over two sessions, you’ll learn the fundamentals of creating a woven wall hanging while experimenting with natural fibers, vibrant colors, and interesting textures to develop your own unique style.

Perfect for beginners and students with some weaving experience, this class offers plenty of room to grow. Learn how to prepare a frame loom, build your weaving skills, and explore techniques for combining different fibers and textures. With two sessions to work, students may even have the opportunity to complete more than one weaving!

You’ll learn:
- How to prepare and use a frame loom
- Essential weaving techniques and finishing methods
- How to combine colored, natural, and textured fibers
- How to finish and prepare your weaving for display

Whether you’re picking up a loom for the first time or looking to take your weaving skills further, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind fiber artwork.

Here are the details:

AN INVITATION TO ALL VERMONT ARTISTS

River Arts invites Vermont artists working in all mediums to participate in PERFECTLY SQUARED, a holiday exhibition and sale. This festive exhibition celebrates creativity, community, and original art at an accessible scale and price.

The Challenge: All artwork must fit within the SQUARE.

- All artwork must either measure 12"×12" or be in a 12"x12" frame.

- Artwork should be submitted ready to hang.

- Artwork must be original and available for sale.

- Maximum retail price: $250

- Artists will receive 70% of the sale price.

- Each artist may submit up to four (4) works.

All artists are welcome.

The weather is changing and we're starting to think about baking yummy treats --How about you?

If so, come join Deb Papineau for a hands-on workshop all about transforming cake into delicious treats. You’ll learn the process from start to finish, starting with shaping and dipping the cake mixture to achieve the perfect cake-to-frosting ratio, and then bringing your dessert to life with festive frosting decorations and seasonal details.

For Indigenous Peoples Day, we’d like to introduce you to Abena Songbird, an artist of Abenaki descent who lives in central Vermont. She is a musician, beadworker, and muralist, among other things.

These images show parts from two of her murals: “Gathering the Medicines”, and “We Continue to Live.” The dreamcatcher, “Winos Song - Ramp” is available at her Etsy store.

Here is her artist statement from the Vermont Abenaki Artists Association website:

The natural world has always inspired me to create – the animals and plants of N’dakinna. I also like to illustrate with graphic design techniques as I do in some of my murals. Most recently I have gone back to creating and weaving with my hands – something I did most as a teenager when I experimented with weaving, embroidery, coiled & pine needle baskets, writing, dream catchers and fiber arts. I incorporate glass beads in my Dream catchers. I hope to learn more basketry & twining technique in the future. I began designing and painting murals in 2022, when I was approached by artists in the Montpelier area who wanted Abenaki art represented in the capital city.
