One thing students don’t always anticipate about the SAT and ACT? The testing environment itself.

A student who took the May 2 SAT shared this with me afterward, and it perfectly captures why full-length practice tests in a room with other students matter so much:

“During the actual SAT, the girl behind me kept banging around on her metal chair during Reading & Writing, and it was really distracting. There was also pen clicking, shoes scraping against the metal chairs and floor, and all kinds of little noises that were hard to ignore. But because I had already practiced in rooms with distractions and background noise, I was able to power through it and refocus. Without those practice environments, it would have been much harder.”

This is such an important point.

Test prep isn’t just about learning content — it’s also about building the ability to stay calm, focused, and adaptable under real testing conditions. And honestly, you cannot assume every proctor is going to intervene or run a perfectly controlled room.

Quiet perfection is rarely part of the actual SAT or ACT experience.

That’s one reason why realistic practice testing can make such a difference.

Class of 1995 here. 😅

I still remember trying to juggle AP classes, SATs, extracurriculars, volunteering, college applications, and some version of a social life — all while pretending I wasn’t completely stressed half the time.

A lot has changed since then (thankfully including senior picture quality), but honestly, a lot hasn’t.

Students today are navigating enormous pressure, and parents are trying to make smart decisions in a world where the process can feel confusing, competitive, and overwhelming.

If your family could use help with SAT/ACT prep, AP exam prep, college essays, application strategy, or simply creating a sane, realistic plan moving forward, feel free to reach out.

I’ve spent years helping students build confidence, improve scores, strengthen applications, and get through this process with a little more clarity — and a little less panic.

Congratulations to the Class of 2026 — and to all students wrapping up another school year.

Class of 2027 and Class of 2028 families: this is an important stretch.

For current juniors, college application season is closer than it feels. One year from now, many students will already know where they’re headed to college.

For current sophomores, this is the ideal time to start building strong testing habits before the pressure spikes junior year.

I’m currently building schedules for the week of May 4–10 for:

• SAT/ACT prep
• AP review sessions
• Academic support
• College planning sessions

If your student would benefit from structure, accountability, strategy, or a clearer roadmap heading into summer, now is the time to get sessions on the calendar.

The students who make the biggest gains are rarely the ones who panic at the last minute. They’re the ones who start early and stay consistent.

Class of 2027 families: hard to believe that one year from now, many current juniors will already know where they’re headed to college. That may sound far away, but in admissions terms, it isn’t.

This is the time to build a smart, strategic plan — not scramble later.

As AP exams approach and summer planning starts to creep into view, we’re currently scheduling:

• SAT/ACT prep
• Full-length practice tests
• Targeted AP review sessions (Math, Chemistry, Physics, and more)
• Academic support
• College planning / Foundation Sessions

A few focused moves now can make a very significant difference later.

Also — good luck to today’s SAT testers, and enjoy prom season. Junior spring is a strange mix of stress, excitement, and “wait…college is actually happening.”
