Sump your tanks!
This customer was forced to divert for a rough running engine. The pilot thought he drained all the water from the tank prior to departure.

Very Concerning!

With more than 25 years as a professional pilot and now as a business owner, this is one of the most concerning maintenance findings I have encountered.

To a less experienced pilot or technician, this may have appeared to be nothing more than a piece of s**t tubing in need of replacement. However, this aircraft's air induction system was originally designed with a steel elbow and rigid induction tubing to provide the proper airflow and meet the manufacturer's specifications.

During a recent inspection, Adam quickly identified that the system had been modified at some point in the aircraft's history and that improper tubing had been installed. Further research revealed similarities to an NTSB report involving this type of modification. Continued operation under this condition could have resulted in an inflight emergency.

This serves as an important reminder that not all maintenance discrepancies are obvious, and even seemingly minor modifications could create serious safety risks.

-Conduct thorough preflight and postflight inspections.

-Ensure your aircraft is maintained in accordance with the
manufacturer's maintenance manual and approved data.

-Never hesitate to ask questions when something doesn't
seem right.
