A huge aspect of this student’s Train Your Brain skill is reflecting on what has worked & supported his progress.

I believe this should be a priority within any child’s academic journey, because it helps them focus on what helps their brain succeed rather than criticizing their brain.

Now, I know we didn’t reflect on all the things he’s done to get here. But I’m so proud of where he is.

His parents, teachers & I are consistently collaborating on ways to support how his brain works, as well as providing appropriate challenges that encourage his ongoing success.

What public school misses…

This seventh grade student of mine has had ongoing goals surrounding both academics and accountability.

Sometimes the foundation a student’s skills are built on in their brain are rocky.

Sometimes their minds are oversaturated with information and skill mastery suffers over time.

Sometimes they need that one lesson catered to their way of thinking that keeps the light bulb on.

And sometimes, it’s a matter of the student simply not providing what the question asked for (lack of attention to detail which can lead to —> lack of academic accountability).

A key thing to also note, she would complete a lot of her work without referring back to the question being asked.

And explanations for her thinking or steps taken were always very vague or generalized, not critical or with evidential support.

Traditional tutoring doesn’t address the mental and emotional impact on students’ lack of mastering academic skills.
