Let's finish strong, Senators!

It’s almost August, Senators, and as the final weeks of our Summer Reading Challenge approach, the standings are as follows.
Lit Me Baby One More Time is still in the lead with almost 60,000 pages read, but Three Dudes and a Bookworm have passed up Booked and Cooked, finding themselves in second place and making inroads on Lit Me Baby’s lead. And what’s more, the Pangea Page Turners are hot on Booked & Cooked’s tail.
What will happen in the final weeks of our literary showdown? Only time and the spreadsheet will tell!
We’re taking page submissions until Tuesday, August 11th at 11:59 p.m. Keep reading until the last minute, Senators! It’s not over ‘til it’s over!

What do the librarians do all summer, you ask? Well, lots of things! We teach professional development, prepare for all the fun and exciting events the library holds during the school year, w**d and analyze the print and database collection, catch up on committee work, support summer classes, AND ALSO run a super fun reading challenge for faculty and staff!
Part of running that challenge is making sure the campus community has good reading material all summer.
Julie and Audrey made sure that happened last week by being mobile librarians for a day, walking around campus with a book cart full of new reads. Watch for them throughout the rest of the summer, doing what they do best: chatting about books and encouraging the campus community to read, read, read!
(By the way, participants in our reading challenge have read over 223,000 pages so far this summer!)
Catch you around campus, Senators!

Well, Senators, it’s been two weeks of big changes in the WSCC Summer Reading Challenge. We’ve seen jumps of 10,000+ pages from our intrepid readers!
Lit Me Baby One More Time is still holding onto the lead, but Booked and Cooked, Three Dudes and a Bookworm, and the Pangea Page Turners (in their first appearance in the top four) are hot on their heels.
Do any of these teams have a stash of pages to log? A vacation coming up? An audiobook series they’re starting?
What about our other teams? Are they planning an epic second-half-of-the-summer charge? As we’ve seen, a single week’s progress can change the entire competition!
Collectively, Walters State has read more than 223,000 pages so far this summer, and we’re on track to shatter last year’s total.
Keep reading Senators! We’ll see you in two weeks!

The days are heating up, and so is the competition. Welcome to the second WSCC Summer Reading Challenge Leaderboard update!
While Lit Me Baby One More Time is pulling away from the pack just a bit, Booked and Cooked, Lit Happens, and Three Dudes and a Bookworm are locked in a heated battle for second!
That said, in this competition, just a few unlogged pages can make or break a team; we’ve been checking out the books to folks across campus, so we know the energy is intense. Who can say whether we’ll watch a slow and steady competition until August, or a dark horse team will log them all at once. Only time and our page log will tell!
Not sure what you should read next? Check out the second image for some inspiration, and email or visit us at the Library to see our other new books.
We’ll update the leaderboard again in two weeks, Senators! Happy reading!

One spot left!
An Expert, a Participant, and an Observer Walk into an Academic Conversation…
No, it’s not the start of a joke. It’s how we want our students to understand their place in the scholarly discussion any time they do academic research.
Want your students to better understand and participate in scholarly conversation? Join the librarians on Thursday, June 11th from 9:00-11:00, as participants develop creative activities that engage students beyond the research paper and promote students as participants in scholarly conversations.
This training is available in-person in the IDEAS classroom, or online. There’s only one spot left, so register at https://ws.libcal.com/event/16646191 today!

Happy summer, Senators! We hope you’re resting, relaxing, and READING!
It’s time for our first Reading Challenge Leaderboard update, and it’s a doozy. Lit Me Baby One More time has come out swinging, followed by Booked and Cooked, Three Dudes and a Bookworm, and Prose and Cons.*
They shouldn’t get too comfortable at the top, though. We’re hearing reports of unfinished books, unlogged pages, and upcoming beach vacations. As we learned last year, the drama of the reading challenge is JUST beginning.
Collectively, our 15 teams have already read almost 90,000 pages!
In other exciting news, we just received a whole bunch of summer-worthy reads and are cataloging them for check-out as we speak. If you’d like to reserve one of these books, or if you’d like to see a full list of our new purchases, please email us at [email protected].
The summer is just heating up, and so is the competition. We’ll see you again in two weeks, Senators! Happy reading!
