Our Primary class enjoyed a field trip today to Cumberland Gap National Historical Park! They had the opportunity to “meet” several of the historical figures they’ve been learning about in class (and some they are learning about later in the school year).

They also got to see several critters. One of our parents caught the sweetest little green garter snake in the parking lot at the pinnacle (swipe to the end to see), and after everyone got to see him (and a few brave students held him), he was carefully relocated to the woods. 🐍

I highly recommend that if you all want a fun trip this weekend to head over to Cumberland Gap, as they have reenactment exhibits up both tomorrow and Sunday!

We have always loved having a music class, and we feel particularly blessed this year that, although our music teacher from the past several years was not able to meet our scheduling needs,  Mr. Dustin has stepped up and has done an excellent job teaching our music class!

The final class we are showcasing this week is our Middle School Classroom.

Our Middle School class is for learners who have fully mastered intermediate elementary skills and are developing new and essential skills as they prepare to take the next steps in their academic journeys into High School.

The focus for this classroom is to honor God through learning, continuing to develop skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners, and teaching learners to use their God given talents and developing personal character.

This class is taught by a new-to-staff teacher (but not new to the Thriving Minds family), Mrs. Buchholz (or Mrs. B., as some students call her). This class has a very hands on, Charlotte Mason approach, with other methods mixed in as well.

This class is currently FULL, with a growing waitlist for the 2027-2028 school year. 😊

Each classroom is kept at less than 10 learners each, though beginning this school year we have begun to cap most at 8, allowing teachers to appropriately meet learners individual needs and build their skills.

The third class we are showcasing this week is our Intermediate classroom.

Our Intermediate class is for learners who have grasped the fundamentals of reading and writing, and are learning the broader rules of English. The focus for this classroom is to develop a firm understanding of the importance of proper literacy skills, to nurture and develop stronger skills for reading and writing, and meeting each student at their individual level and building both confidence and skills.

This class is taught by one of our newest teachers, Ms. Amber, and has a very relaxed and focused feel to it.

This class currently has 3 openings available, and enrollment for the current school year is still open for a short period of time. 😊

The second classroom we are showcasing this week is our Primary classroom.

Our Primary class is for learners with established reading skills who read semi fluently-very fluently. The focus for this classroom is continuing to foster a love for learning, making learning fun, and meeting each learner at the level they are at and building skills levels. English and Social Studies are the favorite subjects for most of the learners in this class, though several are very fond of Math as well.
This class is taught by our Assistant Director, Ms. Casey, and is a very hands on and busy classroom.
This class is currently full, but does have a growing waitlist for the 2027-2028 school year. 😊

With our first week of classes underway, we want to take some time this week to showcase each of our classrooms!

First up we have our Foundations classroom. Our Foundations class is geared towards our youngest learners who are still developing foundational learning skills for pre-reading and early reading, early math skills with counting and cardinality, and developing fine and gross motor skills. This class is very hands on, and is taught by none other than our wonderful founder and Head Director, Ms. Leisa. This class is currently FULL, but we do have a waitlist for the next school year. 😊

We had a wonderful time today at AliYah Academy’s third annual Homeschool Carnival! This is our first year there as a vendor, and we loved seeing all the smiling faces and playing some of our Brain Training games!
