Using Elkonin boxes helps students hear, isolate, and blend each individual sound in a word—one of the most important foundational skills for learning to read.

When children can break words apart and put them back together, decoding becomes easier, reading confidence grows, and fluency begins to develop.

These are the exact skills we strengthen in my Summer Reading Expeditions for rising K–2 students using a structured, multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham approach.

Building strong readers starts with strong foundations 📚

In this lesson, we’re using word ladders to help strengthen phonics, spelling patterns, and blending skills. As students change one letter at a time and read each new word, they learn to see sound patterns, decode more confidently, and become stronger, more fluent readers.

These small steps make a big difference in helping early readers grow with confidence.

Excited to share that Growing Minds Summer Reading Expeditions are now open for registration! 🌞📚

These week-long morning literacy workshops are designed for rising Kindergarten–2nd grade students who would benefit from strengthening foundational reading skills over the summer.

Using a structured, multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham approach, students build confidence in:

✔️ Phonics & decoding
✔️ Reading fluency
✔️ Vocabulary development
✔️ Writing skills

Workshops are held in my Morristown home with intentionally small groups (maximum 4 students) to ensure individualized support and targeted instruction.
