Today I’m celebrating 5 years of being a music teacher and my 3rd year as flute & music theory instructor at Summer Music Academy! I’m thankful for all the wonderful musicians I’ve encountered in my 5 years of teaching and I’m excited for many more years of teaching.

It gives me so much joy to say that I’m the director of a new ensemble in Jersey Youth Symphony, called Chamber Flutes! This September marks 10 years since I first joined New Jersey Youth Symphony as a student! As an alumna of the organization, I am especially proud to return to NJYS as a director of an ensemble. We had our first rehearsal last night and I was so impressed by the fantastic young flutists in Chamber Flutes. I’m looking forward to guiding these students through the curriculum I created, helping students to advance their flute artistry, music theory knowledge and fundamental skills, ensemble collaboration, and overall musicianship.

I’m thrilled to be heading into the classroom for the next month, working with the amazing students of Morris School District’s Summer Music Academy! I was a student in this program as a child and I’m honored to be returning this summer for my second year as an instructor. I’m teaching flute and music theory. Excited to watch these students grow as musicians over the next few weeks!

Congratulations to the talented cast, crew, and fellow pit members of Wharton Community Players’ production of Seussical on such a successful run! We played five very well-attended performances over the past weekend. As a musical theatre lover, it was cool for me to get to experience the show from the pit! I played the Reed I book on flute, piccolo, and alto saxophone—what a fun part. Can’t wait to play in a pit again soon!

Last night, and I hosted our first annual joint studio recital in New Providence, NJ! The evening’s selections ranged from compositions by Paul Hindemith and Carl Reinecke to a jazzy homage to Jethro Tull and transcriptions of Taylor Swift and Anne-Marie. We are so proud of all of our flute and alto saxophone students who performed so well for a very supportive full house audience of family and friends. Looking forward to holding another awesome studio recital in about a year. 🎶🎉🤩

I had an awesome time meeting some talented young flutists while volunteering with the Level 1 Ensemble during the Twenty-Eighth Annual New Jersey Flute Choir Day! I participated in this event for many years as a student, so it was rewarding to have the opportunity to give back this year as a volunteer.

A number of my students performed in Frelinghuysen Middle School’s production of Beauty & the Beast this past weekend. What a fantastic performance! It was lovely to see my students take the stage and play in the pit orchestra, and one of my students even both acted onstage and performed on flute! Congratulations to all involved in this production—it was an amazing show! 🌹🥀🎶🎭

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of reuniting with one of my professors, Dr. Andrea E. Brown, to watch her conduct the All-North Jersey High School Symphonic Band. Dr. Brown led the talented young students onstage in an amazing program including works by Katahj Copley, Julie Giroux, Percy Aldridge Grainger, and an arrangement of Shenandoah by Omar Thomas. It felt like a full-circle moment to see Dr. Brown, the amazing professor who taught me how to conduct, leading an ensemble that I was a member of when I was a high school student.
I was wowed by the performances of both the Wind Ensemble, led by Dr. Eric M. Laprade; and the Symphonic Band, led by Dr. Brown. Congratulations to everyone involved: students and their families, Dr. Laprade and Dr. Brown, the North Jersey School Music Association administrators, and all music educators who made this weekend such a success! 🎊🎶

I’m so excited for my private flute students who recently auditioned for and were accepted to TCNJ Honors Wind Ensemble and North Jersey Area Band ensembles! All of my students have been working very hard, and I look forward to continuing to guide my students in having fun making beautiful music in 2024 and beyond.
