How would you decide to paint a Stegosaurus sculpture not knowing what color these Jurassic animals were? Artist Keegan Kuhn of TRX Dinosaurs went with the colors of a modern Colorado creature. Stegosaurus means "roofed lizard" because the paleontologist who named it first pictured the plates covering its back like a giant turtle shell. Our state reptile, the Western Painted Turtle, seemed a fitting model for the Stego sculpture's palette in the new Deep Time Detour exhibit. What colors would you have chosen?

Hello from Dinosaur Ridge where we are closed for annual inventory at both the Main Visitor Center and the Martin G. Lockley Discovery Center. Dinosaur Ridge itself is open as always for walking and cycling. You can also download an audio tour to your phone at either the west or east gate and explore at your own pace. We will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, October 1.

You can do the Stego Stampede at 9 a.m. You can check out the Paleo ArtFest in the parking lot at the Main Visitor Center from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and you can explore the exhibit hall AND new Deep Time Detour exhibit at the Martin G. Lockley Discovery Center for FREE from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Celebrate Colorado's Dinosaur History!
