Morris Central School The Morris Central School District is a small rural district with a school population of approximately 317 students, housed in one Pre-K-12 building.

Located in the Butternut Valley of Otsego County in central New York State. Since the centralization of the district in 1929, the original building which was completed in 1932 has had 4 additions and some interior renovations. An extensive capital project building plan was approved by the public in June 2000. This project has added nine new secondary classrooms, as well as renovated 85% of the existing space. All classrooms now have access to the internet with the completion of this project. The project has also added new athletic facilities for use by the school and community groups. The nearest population center is Oneonta, which has 2 institutions of higher education, the State University College at Oneonta and Hartwick College. The cities of Binghamton, approximately 60 miles south, Albany, approximately 80 miles to the east, and Utica, approximately 50 miles north, provide opportunities for exposure to urban cultural activities. The district has full-day Pre-K & Kindergarten programs. The elementary grades K-6 have a population of 209 students. The middle school grades 7-8 have a population of 63 students, and the secondary grades of 9-12 have 122 students. There are 3 administrators, 2 guidance counselors, 42 teachers, 2 licensed teaching assistants, and 12 teacher aides.

HERD RIDES AGAIN

Well, ranch hands, the rumors were correct . . . Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens was visited!

Mr. Waffle was “herd” to say, “What in tarnation are those Mustangs doing out here?!” And he said it right in the middle of Mrs. Waffle’s backswing, so you know he was really surprised!

Nana Mona caught a picture of the herd hanging out by the clubhouse while Mrs. Waffle chased them to “Pop’s Tree,” just off the first tee box, and then again later to Hole 10! They don’t even look tired after all that running around. We’ll have to see where they go from there.

In the meantime, Mr. Iannelli was visited in West Oneonta! That herd enjoyed his big front lawn so much that they just might stay the weekend! That herd arrived so quickly, they forgot to drop off the directions. We have included them here in case you get herded in the future.

MCS IS OPEN THIS FRIDAY

As a reminder, we have school on Friday, October 9th. Many of our neighbors are using this as a staff development day. At Morris, we elected to save this day for the end of June and keep October 9th as a day of learning.

If your child attends an outside placement (BOCES, etc.), please remember they do not follow the exact calendar we do.

Monday, October 12, there is no school for staff or students.

Congratulations to Kendra Johnson - Girls Modified overall Champion and Paige Sherwood - Varsity Girls overall Champion at the Delhi Jack Garpiey Cross Country Invitational at the golf course at SUNY Delhi yesterday. FUTURE READY

On September 29th, 10th-grade students participated in SUNY Cobleskill’s Information Day, where they toured the campus, spoke with various college representatives, gathered information on colleges and academic programs, and had lunch in the dining hall. It was a great way for students to begin thinking about future opportunities.
