Honors Night at MCHS is always so special. This year it was even more so as the speaker was Andrew J. Bennett, a former student, as well as Speech Team captain and Fall Play actor. He gave a wonderful speech (as I knew he would) about writing your own story and finding the quiet so you can pay attention to the moments in life that tap you on the shoulder to step out of your comfort zone and try something new. I am so proud of him and happy for his family who have been so supportive of him (and me) over the years. Thank you Andrew for your message and for being such an inspiration.

We had the most people apply to be captain in a decade and I know tough choices were made. We look forward to the leadership of all of our team members and to the 2026-27 season.

And to Kylie, Sophia, Sarah and Hayden,
From the moment you were chosen until your last task today, you have led with compassion, kindness, hard work, dedication and more. You led your team to a Conference championship, a Regional Championship and a Sectional Championship. We are so proud of you and you’ve left some awfully big shoes.

We will see you all next fall.

I am late posting this…my apologies.
Almost two week ago, Morris Speech celebrated the 2025-26 season with our annual Recognition Night: it was a very special night as we honored our wonderful seniors,looked back on a stellar season and looked ahead to our bright future. I was busy running around I didn’t get as many pictures as I usually do. I’d like to spotlight our two special award winners as voted on by our coaching staff..

The David Rice Horizon Award was presented to sophomore, Caleb Lohse. This award is given to a freshman or sophomore for whom we see big things on the horizon. Caleb had a great season improving in his two very tough events of IMP and EX. He made it all the way to Sectional finals in EX. We can’t wait to see the growth that will happen for Caleb in his net two years.

The Peggy Welch Kraus Most Supportive Team Member Award was presented to Senior Captain, Sophia Garcia. Sophia is a hard worker who excels in her own events, but also works so hard with her teammates. She is always positive bd encouraging. She is such a kind person and I know that my Mom, for whom this award is named, would have loved her.

Morris Speech is thrilled to honor these two students and the namesakes of these two very special awards.

Stay tuned for our Top Novice, Best Supporting Team Member and Team Champion to be presented in May.

Morris Speech will begin a new season in about 8 months. And we can’t wait…
