Just because you're a grown up doesn't mean you can't go to summer camp!
Every summer, UMN Morris alumni come to the Archives and Special Collections for a week to help with designated Archives projects and spend time together in the Archives.
The work done during the "summer camp" has included oral histories with retired faculty and staff, transcribing letters from the Indian Boarding School time period, creating biographies for faculty and staff, and a variety of other projects.
Welcome back to campus and thanks for your time, expertise, and company!

For McKenna Potter, getting to go to the National Archives “was a dream come true. [H]istory and the action of discovery have been such a keystone in my life and especially in my education. I am so so grateful to have been given the opportunity… I got to learn the ins and outs of the research process. This experience has left such a beautiful impression on what my future could hold.” A business and management major with a communication and media studies minor, McKenna hopes to pursue a masters of library science after Morris.
McKenna was one of two UMN Morris students to travel to Washington D.C. with Metadata and Technical Services Coordinator Naomi Skulan to spend a week in the National Archives scanning documents related to the Native American boarding schools in Morris.

As a history major who is very passionate about interpersonal relations and connecting with the past, Savana Hauck was thrilled to work in the National Archives to scan documents related to the Native American boarding schools in Morris.
“The first day we walked into the research room in D.C., I genuinely looked around and welled up with tears and I remember thinking to myself, ‘how is this my life?!’ Over the course of four days we got to know the people who make the gears turn in that building, scan hundreds of documents to bring back to Morris for future transcription, and feel like what we were doing was important.”
