Morris Advances to the IHSA Sectional Tournament!

We had an outstanding Regional tournament this past Thursday (5/14) on the Illinois River, with seniors Eric Ramos and Caden Nelson taking 5th Place and advancing to the Sectional Tournament that will be held on the Des Plaines River this coming Thursday (5/21). Their five bass limit weighed 7lb 7oz.

Morris' second boat in the tournament with Sophomore anglers Brock Harder and Chase Button brought 2 fish to the scale for 2lb. 1oz and took 16th place. They will not be advancing to the Sectional Tournament this year, but they have two years ahead of them to continue excelling in our program.

Each high school in Illinois is allowed to enter up to two boats in the local Regional Tournament (there are six Regional Tournaments throughout the state) with the top 6 placing boats from the Regional Tournament advancing to the Sectional Tournament. It is great to have our anglers moving on to the Sectional Tournament!

Our boat captains for the Regional Tournament, Seth Hornsby and Will Hornsby, deserve a special thanks for sharing their knowledge, equipment, and boats, to help our anglers excel in the sport!

Our team will be fishing their last regular season tournament this Sunday (5/17) when we will have 6 anglers on 3 boats in the Calumet River ICASSTT tournament.

🎣 𝗠𝗖𝗛𝗦 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝗻𝗱 & 𝟯𝗿𝗱 – 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 & 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗲/𝗗𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽! 🎣

It was a two‑day grind for our Morris anglers, competing in back‑to‑back ICASSTT tournaments with 4 Morris boats at Braidwood Lake and 5 Morris boats at the Kankakee/Des Plaines River. An unexpected cold front rolled through the region, dropping temperatures and making for some tough fishing conditions... but our teams showed true resilience. Despite the chilly air and stubborn bite, Morris anglers persevered and fished hard all day long both days, coming away with a 4th Place finish and 4 top 20 finishes as well as the Big Bass of the Braidwood tournament!

🎣 𝗠𝗖𝗛𝗦 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝗻𝗱 – 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗱𝘄𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗟𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗧𝗧 (𝟭𝟭𝟲 𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 • 𝟱𝟵 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀)

Our Morris anglers were back on the water at Braidwood Lake for the latest ICASSTT event, joining a field of 116 anglers and 59 teams battling a cold-front, wind shifts, and a tough bite across the lake. Despite challenging conditions, three Morris teams put fish on the scales and earned solid top 20 placements for three of our boats in a deep field.

💪 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

Eric Ramos & Kahne Siler finished 4th place with 8 lbs. 14 oz.
Brock Harder & Chase Button finished 17th place with 3 lb. 9 oz.
Caden Nelson & Connor Bogard finished 20th place with 3 lb. 2 oz.
Travis Haymes and Max Olson did not located big enough fish to bring to the scale (the bass must be at least 12" long)

🔥 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱

Ramos & Siler landed the tournament’s biggest bass, a 4 lb. 13 oz. giant that topped the entire Big Bass field!

The next day, our anglers traveled to the Kankakee/Des Plaines River for another ICASSTT stop, competing against 108 anglers and 55 teams on a river system known for current, rock, and unpredictable spring conditions. Morris managed to put four teams on the board for this river tournament!

Caden Nelson & Connor Bogard finished 16th place with 4 lb. 12 oz.
Eric Ramos & Kahne Siler finished 29th place with 2 lb. 3 oz.
Brock Harder & Chase Button finished 35th place with 1 lb. 4 oz.
Addyson Miles & Joshua Munsell finished 37th place with 1 lb. 2 oz.
Travis Haymes and Max Olson fished hard but didn't bring fish to the scale.

Nelson & Bogard landed a 2 lb. 1 oz. bass, placing them inside the Top‑10 for biggest bass.

Two of our Morris anglers headed down south to Lake of Egypt for another high-stakes showdown in the IBN Southern Division. Despite the pressure, unfamiliarity with the lake, and a competitive field, our team stayed focused and delivered a strong performance!

Junior angler Addy Miles & freshman Max Olson put on a display of consistency and grit throughout the day. Navigating a tough field and an unfamiliar lake that is almost five hours away, they successfully tracked down a full 5-fish limit, showing incredible determination to secure a solid Top-20 finish!

Our Morris anglers were back on the water for another double‑header Sunday, competing in both the Bassmaster High School Northern Division (IBN) tournament on the Des Plaines River, joining a strong field of 59 anglers and 30 teams, and an ICASSTT tournament at Clinton Lake in a highly competitive field of 154 anglers representing 80 teams from throughout the state. Two circuits, two very different fisheries! Despite tough conditions on the Des Plaines River, all three Morris teams delivered solid performances and earned leaderboard spots. Our anglers at Clinton Lake fished hard all day long despite intense pressure on the lake with so much competition!

Our Morris anglers were back on the water for the ICASSTT event at Sangchris Lake, facing a large field of 116 anglers and 60 teams. Conditions were challenging, but our teams showed grit and determination throughout the day.

🎣 MCHS Fishing – Tournament Weekend Recap! 🎣

It was a busy and successful weekend for our Morris anglers, competing in two major ICASSTT events: the Newton Lake High School Tournament on April 11th and the East Fork High School Tournament on April 12th. 💪 East Fork Results (60 Teams / 115 Anglers)

Eric Ramos & Kahne Siler led the way for Morris with a 6th‑place finish, weighing in 9 lb. 1 oz. for a full 5‑fish limit.

Chase Button and Brock Harder finished 31st with one fish weighing 2lb. 13oz

Our third Morris boat, Caden Nelson & Connor Bogard, found and caught many bass but none that met the 12" long requirements to bring to the scale. We are proud of them for fishing hard for the whole tournament, despite a tough day.

Ramos & Siler tied for one of the top Big Bass spots with a 2 lb. 15 oz. fish!

Harder & Button added another leaderboard appearance with a 2 lb. 13 oz. bass.

💪 Newton Lake Results (89 Teams / 174 Anglers)

Brock Harder & Chase Button brought in a 17 lb. 9 oz. limit, earning an impressive 4th place overall.

Caden Nelson & Connor Bogard finished 36th with 13 lb. 6 oz..

Eric Ramos & Kahne Siler followed close behind in 41st with 13 lb. 3 oz.

Harder & Button landed the tournament’s biggest bass. Chase Button brought in a 6 lb. 8 oz. giant, taking 1st Place Big Bass!

Nelson & Bogard added a 3 lb. 11 oz. big bass, and Ramos & Siler posted a 3 lb. 1 oz. big bass, both earning leaderboard spots.
