Important information regarding the air quality levels!

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is affecting air quality in many communities. Even though the fires are hundreds of miles away, the smoke can make it harder for children with asthma and other lung conditions to breathe.

If your child has asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic lung disease, or another respiratory condition, here are a few ways to help protect them:

🌫️ Check your local Air Quality Index (AQI) each day and avoid outdoor activities when air quality is unhealthy.
💙 Continue giving daily controller medications as prescribed, and always keep rescue inhalers nearby.
🏠 Keep windows and doors closed when smoke levels are high. If available, use a HEPA air purifier to help improve indoor air quality.
😷 If older children must be outside for an extended period during heavy smoke, a well-fitting N95 or KN95 mask may help reduce smoke exposure. Cloth masks do not effectively filter wildfire smoke particles.
⚠️ Contact your child's healthcare provider if they have a persistent cough, wheezing, trouble breathing, or need their rescue medication more often than outlined in their asthma action plan.

Stay informed, be prepared, and take action when air quality is poor.

Have you taken, or are you currently taking, a cystic fibrosis modulator like Kalydeco, Orkambi, Symdeko, Trikafta, or Alyftrek? Join the next CF Circle, a virtual small-group discussion, on May 19 at 7 p.m. ET to talk openly about physical and mental health changes that may have come with modulators.

CF Circles are a space to share, support each other, and hear from people who understand what you’re going through. This session is open to adults with cystic fibrosis.
