At Chatter & Chalk, we’re very intentional about what high-quality Pre-K means. 👇

Our curriculum is language-based, developmentally appropriate, and thoughtfully designed with collaboration between our teachers, speech-language pathologists, and occupational therapists. The goal isn’t to turn the classroom into a therapy room; it’s to bring that expertise into great teaching. Therapist-informed, Teacher-led.

Our OT lens means we think about the skills underneath early learning. We pay attention to pencil grasp, pre-writing strokes, hand strength, bilateral coordination, and fine motor development. Our children cut, glue, build, manipulate, draw, paint, and create. And yes, we give preschoolers scissors. Because children build skills by having meaningful opportunities to practice them.

OT expertise also supports social-emotional development and regulation. Children are learning to identify and label emotions, understand what their bodies are telling them, and develop strategies for navigating big feelings. We don't teach children that certain emotions are “bad” or that they shouldn't feel them. We help them understand, communicate, and move through them.

Our SLP lens is woven throughout the day, too. Early literacy isn't about pushing preschoolers into worksheets. It's building the foundations they need for later reading and writing through book and narrative exploration, print awareness, rhyming, sound awareness, vocabulary, and meaningful interactions with stories.

Communication development is equally intentional. We support multimodal communication, spoken words, gestures, signs, pictures, AAC, and other ways children communicate, while creating natural opportunities to strengthen the language skills developing between ages 3–5. Multi-sensory and multi-modal communication means the kids in our classroom use the environment as another teaching tool!

Even concepts adults may take for granted are intentionally modeled throughout our curriculum: -ing verbs, past-tense -ed, prepositions and location words, increasingly complex sentences, vocabulary, describing, sequencing, answering questions, and telling stories.

And then our teachers bring all of this together through engaging, beautifully crafted activities that actually feel like Pre-K (playful, creative, hands-on, social, and FUN).

Because a great preschool activity can look simple from the outside.

But behind it can be an incredible amount of knowledge about how children develop, communicate, regulate, move, play, read, write, and learn.

Helping build independence through meaningful, step-by-step practice.

Today's co-treat session focused on self-care skills:
• Reading a social story about toileting
• Practicing wiping using shaving cream on a seat before applying the skill in daily routines
• Working on toothbrushing routines
• Modeling language consistently using her AAC device while providing verbal support throughout the session

Every small step builds confidence, communication, and independence.

We're soaking up every last drop of summer fun before we kick off an exciting new school year!

This week our littles had the BEST time making colorful sand art and designing their very own tie-dye t-shirts. There's nothing sweeter than watching little hands create, explore, and light up with pride over something they made themselves.

Help us welcome another new Chatter & Chalk teacher, Miss Maggie! She will be teaching alongside Miss Madison in our 3's room this fall.

Hello! My name is Megan "Maggie" Tori Wolfe, and I'm excited to join the Pre-K team at Chatter and Chalk as the new assistant teacher. I was born and raised in Morgantown and am proud to call this community home.

Before beginning my career in early childhood education, I worked as an EMT, where I developed a passion for helping and caring for others. As a mom, I understand how important it is to create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment where children can learn and grow.

My favorite part of working with children is watching them learn a new skill and seeing the excitement and confidence that comes with their accomplishments.I enjoy seeing their imagination come to life as they learn through play.Moments like those are what make teaching so rewarding.

When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, white-water rafting, and collecting memorabilia from the 1990s and early 2000s. I look forward to getting to know all of our wonderful students and families and being a part of their learning journey this year!

Hannah grew up in Hampshire County, WV. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from West Virginia University before returning home to begin her career. With two years of experience in outpatient services, Hannah has worked with individuals across the lifespan, holding a special passion for early language development and helping to build strong communication foundations. Hannah believes that creating a playful, engaging environment where children learn naturally through joy and curiosity is the key to unlocking meaningful, lifelong communication. Outside of the clinic, Hannah enjoys spending time with her cats and going to the movie theater!
