The West Virginia Public Education Collaborative, WV K-12 Speakers Bureau, and South Middle School in Morgantown were thrilled to host Dr. Brad Gilbert, senior professor and Director of Aviation Technology at Pierpont Community & Technical College, to speak to students today ✈️

Dr. Gilbert shared his journey into aviation, as well as the abundance of in-demand, versatile career pathways available in the industry — many right here in North Central West Virginia.

After being awarded a $160 million investment from the U.S. National Science Foundation, the NSF RETI Engine is bringing together employers, educators, and workforce organizations across West Virginia and western Pennsylvania to build stronger pathways into energy and energy-adjacent careers.

As part of the consortium, the West Virginia Public Education Collaborative and EQT Corporation have partnered to educate middle school students about gas industry careers through a STEAM curriculum that applies industry-approved, real-world scenarios.

The partnership builds on the success of the West Virginia STEAM Technical Assistance Center, aiming to expand the program throughout the RETI region.

A stronger teacher workforce starts with stronger connections. 🌄📚

With more than $1.6 million from the Appalachian Regional Commission's POWER Initiative, the WVU College of Applied Human Sciences and WVPEC are investing in the future of education through new pathways that help teachers thrive in WV.

The initiative includes expanding the Teachers Ascend program, which helps out-of-state educators connect with local communities through professional growth opportunities, recreational experiences, and community-building activities.
