WVU Extension Service has offices in each of the state’s 55 counties, Extension faculty and staff develop and deliver programs that bring the University to the people.

The newly renovated West Virginia University Jackson’s Mill Jackson Lodge officially opened its doors yesterday, October 13, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony! ✂🎀

With a fresh façade, a new elevator, improved accessibility and updated spaces throughout, the facility has been transformed into a more welcoming and functional space for visitors to enjoy for years to come at WVU Jackson's Mill.

For as long as she can remember, Laura Presley’s goal was to be the best teacher and role model she could be for her students. Today, she’s the 2027 West Virginia Teacher of the Year, and she credits her experience in 4-H for instilling in her the skills and values to achieve that goal. 🍀
“I was in 4-H to help build these skills that I needed, and that helped me grow so much, both personally and professionally. I really do believe that it was all intricately woven on purpose, and that it brought me exactly where I was meant to be,” Laura said.
She highlights the relationships within 4-H that encouraged her, the talent competitions that taught her to speak confidently in public, writing songs and meditations to express her creativity, and serving as a counselor to instill the value of teaching those younger than her and acting as a role model. Laura is a great example of how 4-H gets people Beyond Ready to achieve their goals and dreams! 🍀👏

The 4th Annual Harvest Time at the Mill Heritage Weekend is just over a week away! Join us next Saturday and Sunday, October 17-18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to celebrate Appalachian history and heritage.

Activities include fiber arts demonstrations, blacksmithing, grist milling demonstrations, hands-on youth activities, craft and food vendors, and more! There will even be a concert on Saturday at 6 p.m.— Songs & Stories about The Mountain State by Mick Souter!

Come out to beautiful WVU Jackson's Mill for a wonderful, family-friendly event with something fun for everyone! 🕯🍂

Mark Lambert, director of the WVU Fire Service Extension, and Ralph McNemar, assistant director, represented West Virginia at the 2026 U.S. Fire Administration Fire Summit! The summit brings fire service leaders together to help shape the U.S. Fire Administration’s future agenda while sharing the latest information, ideas, and approaches affecting the fire service. Their participation helped ensure West Virginia’s training and emergency services perspectives were part of this important national conversation. 🔥🚒
