We are excited to announce our annual leadership program!

The program supports undergraduate and graduate student researchers in any discipline at WVU committed to advancing participatory research and publicly engaged scholarship.

Through leadership development, field studies, structured learning, and applied experiences, students develop the capacity to understand regional challenges, build relationships, investigate complex issues, and contribute to meaningful work across West Virginia and Appalachia.

This year, the leadership program will be offering three pathways: Explore, Internship, and Engaged Research.

Here at the CRC, we’re always learning from a vast network of community engaged researchers around the world!

Last semester, CRC staff enjoyed a workshop hosted by Dr. Jessica Jacobs of Queen Mary University in London. Dr. Jacobs’ work revolves around heritage and tourism in the Middle East, using filmmaking, crafting, and community focused strategies to engage a broad audience in academic research and knowledge production.

Her workshop, ‘The Wonder of Wool - Telling Stories of Climate Action with Textile Animation’ allowed us to explore collective and creative storytelling with sustainable materials-- And learn a new craft!.

Check out this short, stop-motion film we created together, which reflects how individuals within a community experience place and belonging in similar and different ways (and see some behind-the-scenes!)

Learn more about Dr. Jacobs’ work by checking out Film Geographies, an international platform, archive, and network exploring the relationship between film and place, and by reading more about her work with Bedouin women in the Sinai.
