WVU History Club & Phi Alpha Theta

WVU History Club & Phi Alpha Theta Our organization seeks to form a community of scholars with a passion for history! Membership in Phi If you enjoy History, please come to our next meeting.

Welcome to the WVU History Club and Phi Alpha Theta page! The History Club welcomes all students to participate in History-related activities outside the classroom. The History Club is coordinated by Phi Alpha Theta, the international History honorary, but it is not necessary to be a member of Phi Alpha Theta to join the History Club. In the past, the History Club/Phi Alpha Theta has orga

nized weekend trips to battlefields in Antietam and Gettysburg, to the Heinz Regional History Museum in Pittsburgh (as well as side trips to the Strip and Oakland), and to regional and local museums. We also invite History faculty to discuss their research at “Pizza with a Prof,” view historical films and attend special lectures, and organize social events every semester. We also sponsor a series of workshops on graduate school applications, summer internships, and conference presentations. Members of Phi Alpha Theta also volunteer their time for peer-tutoring in introductory History courses. In 2009 and 2013, WVU hosted the Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference. This event brings in over one hundred students from area colleges and universities.

Hey guys!!! We will be meeting tomorrow night at 6PM at the Apothecary per usual. Tomorrow’s topic: As we get settled in our new routine, many people find themselves having roommate conflicts within the first month. It isn’t always easy to come up on a practical agreement—so we will be discussing terrible (and great!) treaties that ended wars. Did the treaty just cause another war? Was the most significant battle of the war fought after it was signed? Was it actually your turn to do the dishes??? See you guys tomorrow!

Our theme is failed military campaigns and big battle blunders. Come and discuss what you are talking about in class or what you have on your mind as a particularly inexcusable error! Also, hear about the trip that we will be taking to look at museums in Pittsburgh and our thoughts on how to celebrate the fall of the Berlin Wall!

Hi Everyone! We'll be having our first meeting of the year at The Apothecary at 6pm. We're going to get together to talk about how our semester is going so far and meeting the new officers!
As usual, we have a theme for discussion. Today's will be: Does popular culture that deals with historical topics have effects on how we view history? Examples being the Disney Pocahontas movie or, more recently, Hamilton. How do they change how people view history?

The club goes on at least one field trip a semester, and this Spring we went to some of Moundsville's historic sites!
