Summer at the School

Several of our students participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), gaining hands-on experience in research (and getting paid for it too!). The program ends with an undergraduate research symposium and we had strong representation from our Wildlife and Fisheries students.

Summer at the School

Although most of the students are away, there's a lot still happening in the School over the summer. In June, the Appalachian Hardwood Research Center hosted the WVU Forestry Innovation Summit at the Natural Resource Center. The summit brought together faculty, students, and industry partners to help shape the future of forestry in the state.

Opportunities in the natural resources aren’t just about fieldwork… you can get in the lab too doing genetics!

MS student Amylynn Ephraim completed her thesis on the genomics of the threatened Cheat Mountain salamander. Amylynn is now working for the WV Division of Natural Resources where she can use that knowledge to help conserve and manage lots of different species.

Our fox got to join the kids in the Forestry and Wood Magic Summer Camp today for !! (and our fox could use a name… comment with ideas)

Forestry and Wood Magic Summer Camp is offered each year for middle school and high school students. Dr. Gloria Oporto gets the campers excited and inspired about forestry and biomaterials.
