To learn more about a relatively unknown chapter of West Virginia history and meet the brilliant novelist, Emily Matchar, who brings this chapter to life, join us Wednesday, September 9, at 7 p.m. in Brooks Hall (room 202).

Matchar is author of "In the Shadow of the Greenbrier," a multigenerational Jewish family saga set around the iconic West Virginia hotel, The Greenbrier.

WVU Art in the Libraries is pleased to announce graduate student Kendall Taylor-Wright as the winner of the 2026 Graduate Student Exhibit Award! Her winning proposal, “Hollow of History: Women of West Virginia,” celebrates the lives and legacies of four trailblazing West Virginia women.

The exhibition will be on display in the Graduate Commons at the Downtown Library throughout fall 2026 and spring 2027. Taylor-Wright will also present an exhibition talk on her research during the spring 2027 semester. Additional details will be announced at a later date.

Art in the Libraries and WVU Education Abroad are looking for student photo submissions for the upcoming WVU Abroad: Student Perspectives in Photos exhibition.

Share the places, people, and moments that made your experience unforgettable—from iconic landmarks to everyday cultural encounters. Whether you spent a few weeks abroad or a full year exploring a new place, your photos can inspire fellow Mountaineers to see the world in a new way.

Submit your high-resolution photos, along with a brief caption sharing the photo’s location and context, your name, year, major, and hometown.

We are thrilled to announce that the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) has awarded WVU Libraries and the West Virginia & Regional History Center its seventh grant! This year's totaling $225,000 — allowing important work of digitizing newspapers published in West Virginia from 1791 to 1963 to continue.

“West Virginia has a unique and complex history that is reflected in the newspapers preserved at the WVRHC. As we honor America’s 250th anniversary and remember her history, it is especially important that West Virginia’s contributions to our nation be preserved and available for all to discover," said WVRHC Director Lori Hostuttler.

The award is part of the National Digital Newspaper Program, a collaboration between the NEH and the Library of Congress to enlist libraries and institutions around the country to create a digital database of historical United States newspapers.
